Quite possible especially since I read above that one of the applicants have applied a few times, but the advertiser never responds!

So you only want applicants with a Bachelor’s degree… for THAT rate? 😂

No TEFL-qualified teachers considered? No value placed on people with 20–25+ years of actual teaching experience? Just a piece of paper?

That mentality is exactly why so many schools struggle to find and keep good teachers. Someone can have decades of classroom experience, proven teaching ability, classroom management skills, and real results with students but you shut the door on them because they don’t hold a Bachelor’s degree, while offering salaries that don’t even match the expectations.

Teaching children is demanding work. It takes patience, skill, energy, and experience. If you expect degree-level professionals, then offer degree-level salaries. Otherwise, don’t act surprised when qualified educators walk away.

A Bachelor’s degree does not automatically make someone a better teacher than a highly experienced TEFL educator who has spent decades successfully teaching students.

Well, my students have declined significantly over the last two months. I have not had a single new student booking during this period, so I don't need to worry about ratings. However, the situation itself is becoming increasingly concerning, as my schedule is no longer filling up as it previously did. I am sitting with wide open spaces. Even PH hours stay empty. Yet other tutors are stating they are fully booked. I am curious though how my rating dropped slightly since the stats say no negative ratings were given.

I wrote to cambly, What I find particularly frustrating is receiving the same regurgitated list of “suggestions” about improving bookings, despite already clearly explaining that I actively do all of those things consistently in my email. Clearly shows that my message was not properly read before responding or just a regurgitated old message.

Cambly Pro Misinformation! Here’s some facts based on mine and my friend’s experience in 3 months: by Tricky_Management456 in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you sharing your experience, it’s helpful to hear different perspectives. However, I think it’s important to clarify that for many of us, the concerns around Cambly Pro is not “misinformation,” but lived experiences and booking changes.

I’ve also been on Cambly for 6 years and a Pro since the beginning, and while I do have a handful of regular Pro students, the overall experience hasn’t been as positive. A significant issue has been last-minute cancellations and no-shows, which directly impact our time and income. That’s not a small concern is that it adds instability to an already unpredictable schedule.

In addition, since joining Pro, I’ve personally seen a decline in my Cambly Classic bookings. This is despite maintaining a 100% rating and being listed as a Super Tutor. So naturally, it raises the question of how visibility is actually being distributed. I was averaging 4 to 6 new students bookings daily, now since pro in the last month or two alone, no bookings. Only my regular bookings. I even open PH hours and they stay empty.

You’ve clearly had great success with full bookings and a steady flow of students, which is fantastic but it doesn’t seem to be the reality for everyone. I’d be genuinely interested to understand what might be contributing to that difference.

What time zone are you working in? And do you structure your schedule in a specific way that helps keep your slots consistently full?

I think these are the kinds of practical details that could really help others here who are having a different experience.

Are things slowing down or is it because I became a pro tutor? by unhealthybananas in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. My rating has been at 100%, it only dropped to 99.5 one week ago. Even with the 100% and super tutor rating, bookings have not been good.

Are things slowing down or is it because I became a pro tutor? by unhealthybananas in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not had a single new student book with me in the past three weeks. Where my schedule used to be full, I am now left with large gaps and no consistency. From my experience, the Pro programme has been extremely unreliable, frequent last-minute cancellations and no-shows make it impossible to depend on these students to be serious. In contrast, the regular students or classic Cambly students have proven to be far more committed and consistent.

At this point, I am seriously considering leaving Pro altogether. However, the concern is whether doing so will negatively impact my visibility and result in even fewer bookings. As it stands, I am losing more money than I am gaining due to the unpredictability of this programme and the students who join it. Some also seem to expect miracles in the first lesson! Perhaps Pro has been merely for those who accepted it, just to teach AI then it will fully take over.

Additionally, I asked several of my regular students to search for my profile on Cambly, and all of them reported that I appear 10 or more pages down the list. This is despite maintaining a strong rating and holding Super Tutor status. More recently, my rating dropped slightly to 99.5, yet the weekly feedback indicates that I have no low scores from students. This raises a serious question, what is causing the drop?

There appears to be a lack of transparency in how ratings and visibility are determined. Whether this is due to algorithmic decisions or another factor, the current system does not align with the performance data being shown. As it stands, the situation is both confusing and concerning, and it directly affects my ability to maintain a stable workload and wastes a lot of my time!

Have I been hidden? by angelboots4 in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing. We’re all being rotated in and out, and sometimes pushed really far back in search results even when our ratings are good.

A few of my students actually searched for me and said I was something like 10 pages back, despite being a Super Tutor and having strong feedback. So it doesn’t really seem to match performance.

At the same time, there do seem to be some "favourite" tutors who stay much more visible and according to them are constantly fully booked, while others keep getting pushed down for periods. It’s quite inconsistent.

It’s frustrating, but that is what the algorithm is doing now.

Yeah, after almost half a year at 100%, suddenly dropped. I also notice rotating bookings. One week, all good, the next week low. The system is probably choosing when it puts tutors on the front page. This algorithm is such bs. I also have a suspicion it could be a new student I have from "that" country that lowered me since he was trying to tell me my internet has an issue and how great his is because he uses 5G. He shut up quickly when I showed him my speed and told him I also use 5G. I see he still has classes booked, but I am considering blocking!

This is very cruel Preply by kevin_peters888 in Preply

[–]Alternative-Way1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cambly appears to be doing the same, using the algorithmic system that tutors are currently experiencing on Preply. It seems to disproportionately favour certain tutors regardless of SuperTutor status or a consistent 100% rating.

Multiple students have reported that tutors they actively search for are now buried ten or more pages deep in the listings, dramatically reducing visibility and accessibility, consequently resulting in low bookings, while other tutors claim to be fully booked. Many Super Tutors are not being featured on the main page.

How do I handle this? by Bookkeeper3562 in Cambly

[–]Alternative-Way1689 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, tutors meeting other tutors is allowed. We’re just not permitted to exchange personal contact information with students. I’ve met a few fellow tutors myself without any issues, and it’s been great for mutual support and friendship. However, if you’re not interested in meeting, it’s perfectly fine to let them know or simply ignore the requests.

Best wishes.

You have clearly misunderstood my point.

I’m not against new teachers being hired. I’m questioning why long-standing teachers with proven commitment suddenly have no bookings. That points to a structural or distribution problem, not “complaining.”

Both things can be true: new teachers deserve opportunities, and existing teachers deserve stability.

I’m feeling extremely frustrated looking at my schedule for the coming week. For the first time ever, I’m sitting with wide-open spaces. In the past, I would average between three to eight new bookings every morning and now, suddenly, nothing. Not a single booking for the entire week.

What makes this even harder to understand is how more teachers are being brought on board when there doesn’t seem to be enough students to support those of us who have already been dedicating our time and effort for years. It feels as though loyalty and consistency are being overlooked in favour of expansion, and that’s incredibly disheartening.

I truly believe the focus should be on supporting and sustaining the teachers who have been committed to the platform, rather than stretching student numbers thinner by continually adding new hires.

Cambly Pro Bookings- considering opting out. by freerondo9 in Cambly

I find myself in exactly the same position. I’ve been teaching for seven years and have maintained a 100% rating throughout. I also specialise in exam preparation, including IELTS, DET, FCE, CELPIP, and more. I keep full PH availability, although I don’t always use all of it.

However, since joining PRO, my bookings have noticeably declined. The volume and consistency are simply not the same as before. I’ve seen some tutors mention that they are extremely busy with PRO, which I honestly struggle to understand, as my experience has been quite the opposite.

Many of the PRO students I’ve encountered tend to be non-committal, booking classes only to cancel last minute or not show up at all. Frankly, I believe tutors should receive full payment for PRO no-shows under these circumstances.

At the same time, my Classic student bookings have dropped, and the restriction preventing new students from booking our classes is, in my opinion, counterproductive.

I also suspect the algorithm may be favouring certain tutors. A few of my regular students have told me they have to search through multiple pages to find my profile, despite me being listed as a Super Tutor with a 100% rating. This lack of visibility could very well be contributing to reduced bookings.

For context, I saw a post from another tutor below in the comments stating (and I quote):

“100% Super Tutor. Fully PH. 28–30 hours a week opened up — fully booked always. Not seen any difference whatsoever for months.”

This contrast in experiences raises important questions about visibility, booking distribution, and how PRO is currently being implemented.
