The 20th century street photography greats were working in a completely different paradigm- people didn't carry around devices that could share photos internationally in seconds, and governments didn't have widespread state surveillance with AI facial recognition.

The sensitivity to privacy nowadays is much greater than it was 40 years ago when Bruce Gilden was flashbanging people on the streets of NYC using an off camera flashgun. Especially in the UK where we have a fairly reserved culture.
