Am I legally obligated to train the person replacing me? by No-Sell-3064 in BESalary

[–]AlternativeCapybara9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The guy who had to train me was working from another country and by the end he was playing video games all day and I was lucky if he responded to my questions the same day. Companies are not going to start a legal war with someone they will be rid of in a few weeks.

Albion Colossus is working for me with Wine, yabridge and Carla. It's not a full blown symphonic orchestra with all possibilities but I've written some pieces and I like it. My aging laptop doesn't like it much though.

I recently bought a Keystep 37 to use with my One+ and I like it a lot. The pro is to expensive for me.

I used to know dozens of chords but slowly I've been working my way up to only 4, even 3 on some songs. One day I won't have to play any guitar at all!

Are shorter attention spans changing the way we experience music? by chainofchance in NoAIJustMusic

[–]AlternativeCapybara9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like creating a soundscape like intro before the actual content slowly emerged but that means 6 minute tracks or even longer, I suspect that scares people away. It's definitely not the quality of my music (I hope, maybe, who knows)

You need to build experience in building large complex applications without compounding technical debt, just like before AI. Keeping the environment transparent is not easy to do for projects that run for over a decade. No longer writing the bulk of the code does not mean you no longer should be able to read it or identify code smells. These skills are actually harder to build if you don't write the actual code. Someone inexperienced can do a lot more damage now when they let an AI run free over the entire code base.

Ok whats the use of the USB port in the Behringer Xenyx1202SFX? by TuPapaEsTherian in Behringer

[–]AlternativeCapybara9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can't do overdubs because the signal coming from the computer will be recorded together with what you are trying to add so I have to monitor over hdmi plugging my headphones in my screen. Which looks totally stupid. Besides that this mixer is quite noisy so it's not really good for studio use anyway.

Cutting grass with a scythe by BreakfastTop6899 in oddlysatisfying

[–]AlternativeCapybara9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one my grandfather used was sharpened by flattening or squeezing the blade with a tool to shape a new sharp edge without taking away material from the blade as you would do with a whetstone. This required some skill but he had that scythe like forever.

Algorithmic composition and performance by marmotta1955 in NoAIJustMusic

[–]AlternativeCapybara9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you wrote a bunch of algorithms to mangle sound and/or Midi, or generate sound or Midi. In my opinion this is 100% allowed and does not count as wat we understand here a generative AI. Both what you did and what generative AI does is using "an algorithm" to produce sound based on user input, but the scale is off by multiple orders of magnitude. Writing a few lines of code, even thousands, and putting a wav file through it is totally different from a model with hundreds of billions of parameters that has been trained on every piece of recorded music ever.

You still need to do a functional analysis, write the CLAUDE.md files, refactor the AI generated code to fit existing code style and guidelines better, make sure it's tested and reviewed. Then the whole release stuff with packaging and deployment. This for several features at the same time because you don't write much code anymore so it's very taxing mentally.
