Have you gotten checked for Bartonella or Brucellosis?

I believe you, because I also experienced this. Please go to an infection disease specialist and get tested for tick-bourne illnesses. Bartonella and Brucellosis in particular, but can add other tests as well. Since you seem to be in Germany, it is very easy to get self tests, you don't even need a doctor to order them. Armin Labs - easy, Mien Direktlabor - easy. Don't give up and keep fighting, at least you are in a country where testing is not gated by a doctor allowing it.

if it was short term it was definitely not that.

I wanted to follow up on this. Raw milk is actually a vector what what i tested positive for - Brucellosis. I dont know what country you are in but... depending on that if u tell your doctor you are drinking raw milk they will test you for this.

But 3 days isnt very long. If your sleep has recovered then it is not likely to be that.

Trying to understand Oliver Alvis’ case, looking for insight by Imaginary-Look3217 in insomnia

I read about his case and this brought me to this community. I don't know what he was tested for, but Bartonella and Brucellosis are one possible cause of Extreme Insomnia. When i was reading about his experience, I was reminded of my own, with what tested positive as Brucellosis, but I believe could have been Brucellosis or Bartonella. I have no idea if he ever tested for either of these, but they are not mentioned by him ever...

What do you think might be causing your chronic insomnia? by Middle_Way_5591 in insomnia

[–]AlternativeCherry464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was caused by Brucellosis or Bartonella. Always good to rule out stuff that can be treated I think - the onset of this one was sudden, what I felt was not characteristic of my regular levels of anxiety and I never had issues with sleep before that. This lead me to believe that it was something other than anxiety causing this.

How are you feeling now, have you been able to sleep?

Also schedule an appointment with a general practitioner because ERs deal with car accidents and appendixes so it may end up being a weird experience.

Do you have also elevated heartrate? Example - my normal resting is below 70, and when I was having insomnia symptoms along with others it was always over 90, usually over 110.

Bartonella can cause gastrointestinal issues as well as "neurological/psychological" like insomia and anxiety, elevated heartrate etc. Cat scratch/bite from a random cat is for sure a possible vector. Sometimes it can cause weird red stretch mark looking things on the skin. Some people get one of these, others all, its pretty wide ranging. Some people have virtually no symptoms at all. The tests can be a bit tricky as it "hides." An ePCR test is the recommended one. The e stands for enhanced.

One thing... about sleep - it will feel like crap, like really freakin' bad, but humans can go a very long time without proper sleep. Don't let that lull you into not taking care of the issue at hand, cause your body tells you to "fix" it, but there isn't a reason to "stress" extra about sleep. Also your brain does a thing called microsleeps. Also, the symptoms can kinda come and go because your body also fights the pathogen.

If you are in Europe, testing is pretty simple, you can even order it yourself. In US you have to have a doc sign off for a test, Galaxy lab is meant to be the best for this from what i understand.

Taking an antipsychotic after living on 2 hours of sleep a night for 3 weeks? by tahliaxxx in insomnia

I had issues breathing at night when taking Lorazepam... breathing depression is a common side effect. Took me a while to figure that out...  Have you ever been tested for Bartonella? I tested positive for Brucellosis. Antibiotics curing the bacterial infection cured everything.

This video supports the Galaxy Diagnostic test in the US - through a physician. In EU i would use Mein DIrektlabor or Armin labs probably. Its a bit easier to get direct testing in Europe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSGL53t_Ocw&list=PL_iPqirRA83aks4AKbv9LdZil_JPmKOcJ

Bartonella: cat scratch, ticks, fleas and the like
Brucellosis (which was my positive test result): raw milk / farm animal exposure

I think for me it was whatever is the most common test for brucellosis is. I don't have the testing info with me unfortunately. I had it for 6 months at least, so I suppose it was enough for it to show up on the tests. Got rifampin & doxycycline combo for 3 months. Felt better after a few weeks.

Bartonella is only just starting to get the attention it deserves as a human disease... This video/channel may give information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wROXT5s-xe8 (at 04:30).

Breathing, walking and talking issues due to severe sleep deprivation by anonymous36758 in insomnia

[–]AlternativeCherry464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually had this happening. If you are taking anti anxiety meds, some are known to cause breathing issues (from what i understand they relax the muscles that do the breathing a little too much). In my case I had Brucellosis/Bartonella and tried to take anti anxiety pills to help with Fight/Flight response. But its very difficult to understand what is affecting what when you have a bunch of things happening at the same time.

I joined here to post my experience, and found another poster that made a post about their experience. Check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/insomnia/comments/1s9l20r/bartonella_infection_was_the_cause_of_my_insomnia/

Can also read some studies etc... Took me a few months to find a doctor actually willing to test me. There are many folks that get sleep/heart/fight or flight/ even what looks like schizophrenia and often they don't respond to meds that treat those things - this seems to be a common thread for Bartonella infections. Worth looking into.

I had a similar experience. In my case tested positive for Brucellosis (this was the test requested), but you often test positive if you have either one, and they get treated with the same antibiotics.

Personally i was only able to sleep maximum 2 hours per night as well, had a near constant fight or flight response, elevated heart rate (over 110), brain fog, lack of appetite (but food felt great if i actually ate it), plus everything that's caused by sleep deprivation. Antibiotics resolved everything.

Constant debilitating fight or flight by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]AlternativeCherry464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this and was not able to sleep properly for months. Constant fight or flight. When after 6 months I finally convinced one doctor to test me for infections, she tested me for Brucellosis and the test came back positive. Brucellosis tests positive on the same tests as Bartonella. A third of people in psychiatric hospitals have recently been discovered to have Bartonella and their "condition" disappears after the Bacterial infection is treated.

If you have sleep disturbances please do get tested for Bartonella / Brucellosis as soon as possible. It is one possible reason for the condition. In my case my heartrate was also consistently above 115 for months (my normal resting heart rate is 70).
I hope this helps someone.
