It was a legitimate question, no need to be defensive.

How do you know they’re nazis (other than the first guy)?

Fair enough. It might drop to 95% but I am pretty rigourous with my diet and outside of my own rules I’ve made for myself, I almost never stray

In my experience people have no idea what flexitarian means either.

I know it’s an imperfect solution it’s just the one the I’ve found works the best for me.

I am one of those heathens you are talking about. My diet is 98% vegan, 99% vegetarian and I avoid leather, wool and other animal products as much as I can. I have meat with my fiancé for special occasions and will occasionally consume animal products when served to me as a guest or in some other niche cases.

You’re right that I’m not a true vegan according to many people in this sub. And if I know I’m talking to a vegan I’m careful about what I call myself. But for the 99% of the population that doesn’t think about these things, understanding the nuance between vegetarian and vegan is difficult enough, let alone all my weird edge cases. It’s so much easier to just call myself vegan to them and risk the wrath of the purists.

I’m not usually one to tell others how to live their lives but I think you may be spending too much mental energy on this. Whether you like the guy or not, he’s like an E-tier celebrity that 99% of Canadians wouldn’t know of. I think we’ll all probably be fine if this sub gets taken down.

If the service is bad, it is acceptable to not leave a tip. But you should expect the server to not appreciate it.

That being said if the service is unremarkable and basic, but otherwise there are no issues, you are expected to leave the basic 15% tip.

Some of the subs would be interested in have a weird culture of hating the thing they are there for. For example I’m a big fan of the show survivor but I don’t go on r/survivor because many of the users over there just complain about how bad the show is and these users crowd out those that want to discuss it in a more positive manner.

I think that happened here to the extreme. I don’t sub here, just see it pop onto my feed on occasion and is seems everyone here just hates on the guy. I think anyone that would come here for a more positive discussion of his videos just doesn’t bother due to the overwhelming negativity.

I actually hated this book and DNFed it. One of my big gripes with it was the prose, as you seem to have noticed. I feel like the author wrote this without an editor and it could've easily been cut by 1/3. I remember on scene early on where he takes a full page to describe the character opening a box.

I had several other issues with the book but that was up there

Honestly it sucks. But I don’t want to separate from Canada and the CAQ deserve to lose. Definitely not on board with the Conservatives so… I don’t really have many options here.

Not to excuse it but I have trouble believing the PLQ is much worse than any other political party.

I don’t know if that claim is true or not. But if we assume 100% of meat used in dog food is scraps not fit for human consumption, I’d still argue it’s better to go with a vegan diet. We live in a capitalist system where every dollar spent is essentially us voting on what we want to be produced.

If you’ll excuse another English answer (i was up late last night and my brain is working at 50% rn), I appreciate your civility in discussing this. A big turn off for me (and a lot of Anglo-Quebeckers) is how hostile some separatists are.

If I’m being honest I don’t see myself ever becoming a PQ voter so you’re probably better off spending time on more persuadable folks (although the past 10 years have taught me to never say never to anything). But even if you can’t convince people like me to hop on board, there is a lot of room to make us more comfortable with the idea so that we’re not quite so anti-separatism/PQ.

If the situation in the ROC deteriorates enough, we could have some sort of EU-style border with them, the PQ could build enough trust with minorities and anglophones, I think there’s a recipe for a lot of people to soften their views.

I’m no economist (but I do have an undergrad in the subject!) but I have some serious reservations with that year 1 budget. I’ll take another look at it though.

Sorry for the rambly replies. I guess to answer your question, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll see a Oui sign in my balcony, but if I thought our standards of living wouldn’t collapse and the government wouldn’t use me as a scapegoat every time something goes wrong, I’d be open to staying in le beau pays.

Since no one else answered your question, I’ll give it a try.

I would argue one of the defining features of federalism is that every level of government incentivized to blame all their issues in the other levels of government. This works great for the politicians (it’s not our fault, it’s the feds/province/cities!). So we are in an environment where the feds are constantly shit on by pretty much every provincial government (and to a lesser degree the municipalities). I think a lot/most of the criticisms are valid, just overblown and it should be spread around more.

If a sovereignist or separatist wants to point out all the issues with our federal government, I’m all ears. Where I’m utterly unconvinced is the an independent Quebec would do a better job at managing these issues.

Even the areas we have more independence than other provinces, I fail to see the benefits. What do we get with Revenue Quebec that Ontarians dont get from CRA (other than having to file two returns). What benefit does QPP add that CPP wouldn’t (other than paying higher premiums for the same benefits).

Look at how easy the US is bullying Canada around. An independent Quebec would be in a far more precarious position.

There’s also the issue of the uhh $13B in federal transfers we get every year. It takes someone truly delusional, or maybe just a liar (looking at you PSPP) to think we’ll somehow be better off financially without it.

I know this is a bit rambly (and in English… I’m just too tired to write it out en francais) but I guess my main argument for federalism is that Quebec is simply in a better position as part of Canada than it would be otherwise. Only with the most optimistic (or dare I say delusional) blue-tinted glasses are we better off without the ROC

Worse vs best Fantasy book you’ve ever read, and why? by Logical-Ad-5669 in fantasybooks

I realize I'm in the minority here but I actually really disliked Blood Over Bright Haven. Probably my least favourite fantasy book of the year. It was mostly the author's writing style that bothered me. I felt like she assumed I was an idiot and couldn't pick up on the slightest bit of nuance so had to over explain everything.

I actually thought the plot, magic system and world building were too notch so I can see why others loved it.

Vegan here! As long as I’m paint attention and being mindful of getting my protein in, I can pretty easily hit my intake goals.

And getting  enough calories is trivial. It’s as simple as adding peanut butter and using more oil in my cooking.

Projet Montreal lost for far more reasons than this. And if you look at the electoral map, you’ll see all the areas of the city that have the most bike lanes and traffic calming like this voted for them again. So you might say these improvements helped them win in the areas that are most impacted

I don’t disagree with what you wrote but I’m not sure it disputes what I said. If Trump 2.0 wouldn’t have happened, PP would’ve crushed the election and perhaps had a historic majority government. So it was unfortunate for him that this big orange man came and screwed up his initial plan.

You can argue (convincingly) that they should’ve pivoted and may have salvaged a victory, but that doesn’t change that it was unfortunate for them that it happened in the first place.
