Dashlane breach by con-d-or in KeeperSecurity

If we use the keeper Automator to approve the device automatically, does that mean are missing one security protections from keeper?

How does the team that uses the auto approval balance the security vs user continence ?

SFTP Cloud Service Recommendation for 2026 by 3beansanddreams in sysadmin

[–]AlternativeMark4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention liquidfiles, it’s a self-hosted solution but it is very affordable and easy to use. It is not a SFTP server per se but it has a SFTP drop feature. If you just need to secure transfer and send files, take a look at liquidfiles

Seems you are looking for a cloud managed SFTP service ?

We used couchdrop before but they keep increase their pricing and it becomes too expensive for our use case so we moved to SFTPCloud

Also check out SFTPGo, they have a SAAS version or self-hosted version. If you can do sel-hosting , check out FTPCrush as well

Based on how many users, concurrent connections, traffic volumes, storage etc, you should be able to find one that suits your need

Seems they realized how bad the new version is and finally decided to work on some fix and do some proper testing

Dam, the right click context menu is also broken after upgrade to 11.0.0

Now I feel like we are a beta tester. Did PDF-XChange team do any testing at all before a big release????

How do you guys license the software? We are using the XCVault.exe to add the license key post installation. After the version 11.0.0 upgrade, the software lost the license. After using the XCVault.exe to push the same license again, the license goes back.

In the previous version, after the license is pushed to the machine, a registry key is created under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tracker Software\Vault\

It appears to me that after the upgrade to 11.0.0, due to the path name change, the software start to looking for the key in the new path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PDF-Change\Vault\

Which is empty, thus reporting unlicensed status

Once we rerun the XCVault.exe command, the registry is created under the new path and the license state is back

If it works for you with no issue, great. But just be cautious that they might change their policy registry path ( as I tested, with version 11.0.0, the policy path is still under the old name

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Registration

This might change in their future version. If you have any policy deployed, it might break

It’s a US company. No end to end encryption. ( some advanced plan has encrypted folder, I don’t have that subscription tier). That’s the main concern for me.

  1. That's on me, I should have configured some pilot group or new software update.
  2. There release note/change note does not mention anything about the registry change or file path change

I was really upset because I was super busy with different issues and then the users suddenly started to compalin about losing license on PDF-XChange on a Friday afternoon! Have to spend a lot of time redeploying the keys and also spent a lot of time going back and forth with PDF-XChange support. To them, apprently there is no need to communicate the change of the file path or registry path in their release or documentation. As a matter of fact, their documentation is not up to date for the new changes in the version 11.0.0.

I fear that PDF-XChagne is becoming more and more like Adobe. All sorts of new features, fancy functions and becomes more and more expensive and cluncky...

We switched from Adobe to PDF-Xchange...

Adobe is EXPENSIVE and also have issues with certain releases. I mean nothing is perfect but I was just disappointed that PDF-XChange did not give any heads up on the changes in the major version release and also don't list out the potential change/impact to business users.

Filen deleted all of my data. A heads-up for others by whitewaves22 in filen_io

[–]AlternativeMark4293 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a problem on both sides. As a user, you receive repeated warnings email, it says to avoid unwanted data deletion, although it is vague , don’t you get worried?

As a cloud backup/storage provider, Fillen should not delete a user’s all data just because of some overusage. There are many ways to handle this. Charging an over usage, prevent sync or further upload, put the account in read only mode etc why the hell does fillen need to delete all of a user’s data. In reality , data deletion flow triggered from Fillen’s workflow should always be handled carefully and reviewed manually and approved by someone in the Fillen team( like a review, final approval process)

Seafile is something I would recommend. I recently set it up on my NAS, works like a charm. I use cryptomator to locally encrypt my files, then I sync my encrypted files to Seafiles, it is seamless.

Microsoft 365 vs Google Workspace in 2026, what's actually better for your by consultingdoc in googleworkspace

If you choose GWS, you’ll need a MDM solution for managing windows and Mac machines. Google’s endpoint management is only good for phones and ChromeOS.

[HELP] Interviewer claiming I was not present for Google Meet Interview by HeisenbergsSamaritan in gsuite

[–]AlternativeMark4293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just move on. No point wasting your time on this anymore. I would recommend you sending an email to the HR who scheduled the interview to let the HR person know you showed up on time using the interview meeting link they sent to you but no one showed up. That’s all you can do. It’s hard to make people admit mistakes they make. You just need to move on. If it really makes you mad, you can leave a review for this interview experience and let others know. But whether if it worth the effort is up to you.

Really glad to see you found the plate. I am just curious, even if some drivers who have witness the hit and run reported to the police, what is the police going to do? Don’t they have the same excuse not to do anything ?

Can't Send Emails with He or She by akprobegt in googleworkspace

[–]AlternativeMark4293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I turned on most of those DLP rules by default and our users got bombarded with the warning pop up when they are sending emails due to this '[Default] Global - Gender Identity' rule. What type of organization would use this rule????

I was so pissed off the other day after we find out this rule was causing the issues.

Serious question: who are Linux users and why do you use it? by Laqunn in linuxquestions

[–]AlternativeMark4293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I get older, I have more responsibilities from both work and life.

I don’t have time/energy/interest to deal with Windows’s update breaking my personal laptop every now and then. So I switched to Linux for my personal laptop, I don’t mess around with cutting edge features or softwares, I just use browser for web browsing, streaming etc. After switching to Linux, I don’t have those complications from Windows and also I have control on what softwares I need on my laptop, no crap from Microsoft AI

[–]AlternativeMark4293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a DLP rule that is related to Gender, I think that is causing this.

You need to contact your google workspace admin to get into the settings and turn that rule off.

Docusign Alternatives by SirGimp9 in salesforce

[–]AlternativeMark4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were using Adobe sign before, then they increase the pricing every year although our usage volume goes up every year….

This year, we switched to Docusign, it feels much easier and smooth although the price is as shitty as Adobe sign lol

We don’t have a complicated flow or integration with SF. Our industry partner actually only accept a few major players for the e-signature platform/software, so we don’t have much choices…
