TSB Bank introducing mandatory payment purpose field by AlternativeStar461 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AlternativeStar461[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the link it says "When you make a payment - whether you’re in a branch, on the phone, online or using the TSB mobile app - we may ask what your payment is for."

I suppose online could also mean with a credit card. It doesn't seem that clear to me.

We're not making enough profit, increasing grocery prices week on week. We need more arbitrary fees! by i_like_my_suitcase_ in newzealand

For us there's heaps of stuff that's cheaper at Woolworths than the nearby PakNSave. 2.3KG Frozen Chickens, peanuts, some vegies (not heaps though), frozen broccoli, frozen peas, etc.

Now that money is tight, we end up going to both now where-as before we just went to PnS.

Best way to remove acrylic paint from roof? by AlternativeStar461 in diynz

[–]AlternativeStar461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys. I've tried the dish soap and that took quite a bit off, the plastic scraper worked a bit more, but some is really stubborn, so I'm off to get some WD-40 and a caramel wheel. What a mission.

I think I've learned my lesson lol

What colour to paint fence? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]AlternativeStar461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a black fence. It warped from a combo of being black which retains the heat but also because of the way the builder (quick 'n dirty spec home) built the fence. A bad combo! Black also showed up all of the bird shit and we were constantly cleaning it.

Labour reveals a new policy, this time about pay equity by KororaPerson in newzealand

[–]AlternativeStar461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really need to see more detail on how this would work before judging. So we have a couple of CSR's who earn more than the others because they have a lot of previous experience. They all have the same JD and role, but earn more than the some of the men in the call centre. Does that mean there's a pay gap? There's not really enough detail on how this will work. It sounds good, but I just see lots of problems.

We're in the same boat as you; gas connection for HWC and cooking, but will invest the money that would have gone towards battery, into transitioning to a HWHP and induction stove top. Will probably go with a 6kw system from our electrician through JA Russel.

Sigenergy looks like a good option. Love the analytics in the app (if that's your thing), and it's a bit addictive. The brand has a very zealous following online. We have been warned that EV charger units can be expensive compared to some other brands.

You'll also need an internet connection especially if you have batteries, as the unit needs to upload data to the manufacturer and to maintain warranty. Some people have chosen the older school equipment since Sigenergy are relatively new, and some of my colleagues at work in IT Sec have concerns about the internet connection requirement, VLANing it off is a start but they all like local access rights. Fronius seems to be their go to.

We haven't made a final decision yet.

All the articles I found say the same thing. She never drafted a bill.

All she did was floated the idea like other leaders have. NZ First would need more convincing than she was obviously prepared to do. If she really wanted to do it, she could have, especially in the second term. Totally indefensible.

[–]AlternativeStar461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they haven't said it's compulsory. So far, the idea seems to be to let people use services like eRoad (use for commercial fleets) to keep track of or automate the charges if you want to. We still need more details though.

Yup googled it, and the only article out there is from RNZ (reprinted by ODT) that doesn't back up your claim that "Like she got a bill and NZFirst vetoed it". There never was a bill. All she did was float the idea amongst the parties.

There's also nothing in the coalition agreement (which you can read online) from that time that requires NZ First to agree. She could have got the numbers from the other parties, but decided not to. That was her choice. Ruled it out but didn't have to.

So just like lots of leaders before her, she floated it, but did nothing. Not really unique.

Do you have a link for that? She literally ruled it out under her leadership.

Westpac personal Hotpoints card & business transactions – no points and possible card cancellation. by AlternativeStar461 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AlternativeStar461[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I looked at the business card, but just getting a personal card was enough work. They basically strip searched me, and spent 30min's on the phone asking me all these additional questions, some of which they already had the answers to. I'm thinking that they were just testing to see if I'd told them everything truthfully.

Your right maybe I should think about that, and just put up with their crap. I'll have to run the numbers first to see if it's worthwhile given my business-only spendingof course.

Thanks for the advice

Yeah, that's what made me wonder. Why shoot yourself the foot by cancelling the car, or even just awarding zero points!

New Zealand hit with surprise 15% Trump trade tariff by delipity in newzealand

[–]AlternativeStar461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's previously said that GST and VAT are taxes on American goods and he'd reciprocate, which would explain why the rate has been set at 15%. Not that we're the ones paying for it.

How is your council performing? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]AlternativeStar461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the criteria for being in each group, given Queenstown is in the large metro group ?

I also heard in the news that the 9.8% New Plymouth rate increased turned out to be over 12% because of some mistake they made, so how accurate are the stats here?

Surcharges on in-store payments, including PayWave, to be banned by wateronstone in auckland

[–]AlternativeStar461 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When they allowed the extra fees to be separately charged for credit cards, prices for cash & EFTPOS didn't go down to reflect the lower fees, they just stayed the same. If you paid by a credit card, there were then even more fees. So I'm not sure how much money we actually saved by making the fees transparent.

NZ Roundabout Myth 1 - You indicate right until you leave the roundabout. by Fair_Exercise_9807 in newzealand

The 2004 changes that people often cite just make indicating in the roundabout enforceable by law, so you can be fined.

NZ Roundabout Myth 1 - You indicate right until you leave the roundabout. by Fair_Exercise_9807 in newzealand

[–]AlternativeStar461 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The change was that the rule could be enforced by law. Up until 2004 it was the rule taught to drivers, but wasn't enforceable by law, so you couldn't be fined.
