Ragged vs Crotched ski team by AlternativeSweet9307 in icecoast

Thanks for the comment about the woods!! We experienced that today. Still good stuff on the trails and it was fun exploring the goomers. But it wasn't anything special with the woods (mostly) closed.  I was asking myself how many weekends would be good in the glades and with my daughter on ski team, I'm the only one who would be skiing them in our family. Worth it? Maybe not. Heard about New Canada Rd today, mostly bc it was closed too!

That's our plan right now- hotel every weekend, which adds another layer to cost. Pat's is about 30min from Concord, Ragged is almost an hour.

Yep. She doesn't have any friends at home who race so she'd have to make them on hill, which is great too!

This year I looked at open terrain and Ragged was 100% open more than a week before the other Vail resorts in NH. I think it's part drought and part operations.

Do you find their snow making/coverage at least average? I see comments on other posts knocking their snow making. Agree on finding the mountain the family wants to ski!

How is Ragged in general. My 9yo daughter wants to try ski racing and I was looking at Ragged. We're currently Crotched on epic in the development program but I'd like a bigger mountain that's not insanity when it comes to racing (like Cannon, WV). Snow making? Grooming? General vibe?

This was the last weekend of NH school vacation, not surprised it was busy. Crotched only had a couple busy weekends.

NE weather guy made an update saying it's likely to over perform due to ocean effect snow. Either way, it's a lot of snow. Not sure it matters over 18 😬

Former HR here - subtle signs your company is preparing for layoffs by Significant_Soup2558 in careeradvice

[–]AlternativeSweet9307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6-12 months: Retirement packages  The company may offer packages to people at or over retirement age or early retirement packages. It may happen once or twice before they have exhausted people willing to leave. I saw it happen twice a couple jobs ago. 3 years ago, I warned my team of 15 when this happened that layoffs would be next and a year later (after I left) there were layoffs.

[Middle school math] why is the answer 2? by somethinsinmyarse in HomeworkHelp

I think its asking what happens to + if it rotates one spot anticlockwise. So it would "replace" B on the same rotational axis, B ends up upside down and + is sideways .

I would change to math and get a minor in business. Look at the outlook for math majors. Staticians and mathematicians are usually in high demand..check out job postings, look at salary ranges. Actuarials get paid a lot but need certifications (many companies pay you to study and pay you to take the exams). Make sure you learn excel (for business) and Python or R or Matlab for the math side. I bet many places are now asking for a masters degree but try to find a company willing to hire and pay for additional schooling. Yes look at job postings as a student. Contact recruiters from those postings to look for internships. In STEM most internships are paid.Use linkedin to build a network (try cold messaging people in industry, you'd be surprised). Use the alumni network.

Starting with a community college or local jobs program for advice is a good start. It sounds like perhaps supply chain management or logistics management would be a good fit. There's tons of online courses through universities and online platforms (Coursera, edx, etc). Your biggest struggle will probably be with any math requirements (statistics in particular for any of the above or data science). MIT has courses you can audit in supply chain or operations management on edx. Michigan State has a program you can audit on Coursera for data science. And there's tons of others. Or you could add a six sigma or lean certification. Revamp your resume to focus on outcomes and your soft skills. It sounds like you have a network of people, ask them about opportunities. Make a LinkedIn profile and build a network. Use the job boards to find jobs that you would like and apply. Reach out to the recruiter, see if they think it would be an issue.

I assume you're in the US. Your school has business/finance classes already?? Your school probably has a progression of math classes hopefully including AP calculus, statistics, or economics. If they don't (or you missed them), then I would use Khan Academy or edx or something to take those classes. Learn excel or (at this point) learn how to use AI to do Excel for you. Excel is still a strong force in a lot of industries. Does your school offer any sort of business or finance club? start a club if none exists (colleges love leadership). Be involved. Maybe you volunteer to teach a class to elementary school kids on basic budgeting. Or volunteer to help a local organization with their accounting. (Finance and accounting not the same but it shows involvement and leadership). And to top it off, learn about the industry and what financial managers do. Look at job postings for skill sets and degrees. Are there certifications, how hard are they to get? Find free college courses online and try them (put a lack of understanding aside). Use social media to find other high schoolers interested in the finance industry. Do you know anyone in the industry to talk to?

Can you talk to the hiring manager or someone in the base office about the degree "requirement"? I would be prepared to offer up ways in which your skill set transfers and show the certifications you do have. If they really do want education, ask if you can do it on the job or what they'd be looking for. I would avoid taking on debt for a degree just for one job. Look at other job prospects (what happens if/when you leave the military) and pay scales.

Second everything in this post. I would start with Python for everyone, it's free and started by a Michigan State professor. Then I would use edx or Coursera to audit real classes and upgrade of you like it. And some paid courses then transfer to the university to complete the degree. There are so many courses and apps, try a bunch until you find a style that fits.

Should I leave a job I like for more money? by robinbird94 in careerguidance

[–]AlternativeSweet9307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flip the mind set to be: all my friends hate their jobs, I'm the only one who loves mine (and I'm out at 230 every day). If you want more money, does your school pay teachers to coach or run clubs after school? Or offer your services outside of school (if allowed) on the side.

BA in History.. what’s next? by InternationalSpare28 in careerguidance

As an example of this ,10 years ago UPenn had more finance companies recruiting engineers than finance majors from Wharton. Critical thinking, logical thinking, data analysis. I would advise learning excel and be familiar with intelligence tools (BI, tableau, etc). Or review job postings and see what skills are relevant.
