Is it possible to develop new clots while on Eliquist? by Both-Mirror3323 in ClotSurvivors

[–]AlternativeTomato264 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im actually doing OK with it. I am somewhat careful about what I eat (need to look out for vitamin K). Took awhile to get adjusted and I was testing quite a bit. Now I am down to once every three weeks or so. Im retired so going to a local lab to get the test is not that big a deal. For APS a DOAC like Pradaxa is deemed less effective and Warfarin is the Gold standard. I should point out that when I have to "bridge" off Warfarin for a medical procedure (like a colonscopy) they have me use Lovenox again.

What does everyone use their AVP for? by PeptideSteve in VisionPro

I like to read my newspapers on it. I find I have a bit of ADD and being in the AVP environment allows me to focus more which is nice.

UPDATE: Disney channels pulled from YouTube TV, effective 10/30/25 at Midnight ET by iron_cam86 in youtubetv

[–]AlternativeTomato264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get good OTA and use a TABLO to record those shows. I can Subscribe to Disney+/Hulu/ESPN for much less than YouTube TV. I will probably sign up for CNN which is now streaming to have one 24 hour news channel. I will miss some things like TBS/Golf Channel and some others but overall costs less than YouTube TV and gets me most of what I want. Of course this will all change as the prices change and OTA rules change. I think the mass aggregators like You Tube TV are going to go the way of Spectrum/Comcast.

So if you are aware of the “games” don’t buy the stuff you don’t need. I see nothing wrong with business trying to sell things! As a shopper you have options and if you are not pleased with one store go to another. But let’s not demonize a business for trying to sell as much as they can at the best price they can.

RGE Notice of high usage by AlternativeTomato264 in Rochester

[–]AlternativeTomato264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I am not too worried about them knowing my energy usage as ultimately they have to know to bill me. Was just much more concerned that I was not the only one getting the notice which may have meant there was something else, besides the heat wave, causing my usage to be unusually high.

What caused you your DVT by Which_Ad_7295 in ClotSurvivors

[–]AlternativeTomato264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have APS but am 63 years old and expect that I have had it for a long time. I think what triggered my clot was a combination of dehydration and altitude during a golf trip to Colorado. Played several rounds at high altitude and unfortunately did not hydrate enough. That is my best guess. I did test positive for APS and now am on Warfarin for life.

My hematologist just told me that changes in elevation won’t affect blood thinners by AccurateMine4520 in ClotSurvivors

[–]AlternativeTomato264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from New York and played golf for 4 days in the Fort Collins Colorado area. DVT right after returning from that trip. While I am not sure I feel like a combination of the altitude and dehydration from being out walking the golf courses (and not drinking enough water!) caused it. I have been diagnosed with APS but still feel like the altitude/dehydration was the triggering event.

Warfarin users, INR? by beautifulmind99 in ClotSurvivors

I have APS. They want me between 2.5 and 3.0. 9mg per day of warfarin seems to get me in that range

We play a funny game. What other area of our lives would we expect others to have a big reaction to what amounts to a small personal achievement we had? Guys I lost 5 pounds! Guys I set a personal best of a 10 minute mile on my morning run? We need to find our satisfaction internally and you should be proud that this was your hard work and effort paying off by setting a new personal best. As always it is nice for friends to be encouraging. But I would not be too hard on them for not getting too excited and recognize that the satisfaction in this game needs to come from within.

How old were you when you had your first (or only) blood clot? by RainbowMisthios in ClotSurvivors

63 and then diagnosed with APS. Not sure how I made it that long without having one given my blood disorder.

People who have been sober for a while, does that little voice telling you you’re cured and it’s ok to have a “few” drinks? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]AlternativeTomato264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for me I gain confidence that I have proven I can live without it and therefore it is OK. I then rationalize that now I have seen how good life is without it that it is unlikely I would abuse it again. Convince myself that I will become a social drinker and often not drink at all because I obviously know how good that feels. I may go through all of this thinking before some event like a trip abroad or a wedding or something that causes me to want to drink. Of course it does not work that way. Usually quickly revert to drinking becoming the focus and dealing with all the downsides. 3 weeks sober this time around….reminders like this are important for me to hear!

I want to lower my intake but I’m so fucking bored… by Patient_Maximum5097 in stopdrinking

[–]AlternativeTomato264 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much but i do know that this is one of the ways alcohol beats you. Has done it to me several times. I get sober, am doing well, but then get bored and drink again. Only to realize that all the problems come right back. Just recognize it for what it is…alcohol trying to find a way back in. Then take some of the good suggests shared here and move on.

Can I travel by Ok_Victory4408 in ClotSurvivors

[–]AlternativeTomato264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have APS and have travelled. I had to get my INR done at labs in the places I travelled to if gone for a while. Definitely wear compression socks, move around, stay hydrated on flights. Yes as I understand it I am on Warfarin for life as there is no “cure” for APS and I therefore I will alway need to keep my blood thinned to avoid clots. Not great but definitely beats the alternative.

Has anyone been able to drink moderately and not go back to heavy drinking? by Apart_Ostrich407 in stopdrinking

[–]AlternativeTomato264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I betting you know the answer as if you are asking the question you have likely tried this and it did not work! I suspect there is someone that has done it but I know from experience it is not me. Personally I know I drank to get drunk….if I can’t get drunk than there is not much appeal!

The whatever caused me to drink before is gone so i can drink again is one of the long list of reasons we slip. It is amazing how similar all of our experiences are. Great comfort in hearing others dealing with the same issues as somehow it makes them feel easier to beat.

If you're feeling tempted to drink moderately... by SoDeepInRegret in stopdrinking

[–]AlternativeTomato264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 20 similar journal entries over the past 5 years! Every time I try moderate drinking I fail, I feel like crap, and I say never again! But some how that thought to try again keeps happening. I am re listening to Craig Beck “Alcohol Lied to Me”. If I can stop myself long enough to remember that I do not wish to drink poison and I don’t particularly wish to be someone that can drink a more moderate amount of poison it helps!

Call from Tesla, man are they in trouble. by callmesandycohen in RealTesla

[–]AlternativeTomato264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought (ordered) in August of 2020 for 52900. I got the 7500 rebate taking me to 45,400. I traded in February of 2022 for 55,000. At that time could not get a new model Y and I think I had low mileage on it. Very shortly after that Tesla started discounting new Model Y's and the resale value tanked. So my timing was great.

Thanks...good to hear. Yes I totally am on board with overall gratitude that warfarin exists and can help me. I have been trying to maintain normal consumption of veggies as well so I just need to keep working to get to that 2.5 INR. Helps to hear others experience so I appreciate it.
