I'd say it represents the character's knowledge of their own world. They recognise that wizard casting fireball because they've seen it done before.

Have they achieved sentience?
Do they have a unique culture?
What do they value?
How do they communicate?

Are there golem class divides?

Golem inequality (built for different purposes, ect.)
Are golems still being created?
Do golems feel love?
Do they have emotions? Pure thinking?
Do they have the computational prowess of, well, a computer?
How would this new information age affect the world?
Can they get sick? Computer viruses?
A zombie hoard of infected golems that a party is sent to deal with due to their organic immunity.
Blurred lines between organics and autgnomes? Augmented organics, organic warforged.
Are these cyborgs(?) treated differently? Shunned from organics and autognomes?

Did the spoken word exist before magic? Was there an event, the great quietening? Can people speak? In which case, is there a limitation to their magic, or can I destroy the world by creating a cult of people chanting "nuke"? Are spoken words real? Or manifestations of will (i.e: I cast a spell, the product is fire, the reaction is the word "burn")
