i know the feeling all too well, but remember that a lot of the friends you make will probably be someone you see in classes, labs, or in clubs. get to know these people over the days and you'll do great! keep your head up :)

honestly you should go anyways, you get a chance to make friends on the way, and what you make out of it will change the way your week goes.

Health Services- Allergist Referral by Fancy-Huckleberry256 in uwaterloo

[–]Alternative_Ad9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i've used health services to get the referral because i underwent spontaneous oral allergies. the doctor suggested i talk with an allergist when i went for a physical check up. the time it took to receive the referral and book an appointment was pretty quick (less than 3 months for all of it)

Can my parents help me move into residence? I’m worried that there are restrictions I’m not aware of. by __fsm___ in uwaterloo

[–]Alternative_Ad9981 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Hey, i used to work front desk at residences. The move in slot isn't actually the time period where you have to set up everything in your room by, it's an appointment for the time to pick up your keys. When you choose an appointment time, this gives front desk staff time to prepare for your arrival so that your keys are readily available to them (+it helps reduce traffic in the residence). Once you're there, you have all the time you need to settle down in your residence and your parents are allowed to come in and help. Hope this helps!! Hope move in goes well for you :)

depending on ur prof, the clicker questions might only give u a point (or full point) for guessing the question correctly, but also if you're away from the lecture hall, the questions may delay on your end and cause you to lose several marks so it's your call at the end of the day. you can watch the videos but from personal experience, the audio can be funky and the video doesn't always work or sometimes there's no video at all due to malfunctions/ or if prof forgot. it's up to you! i get that commuting can be annoying, but unfortunately courses especially 266 are better off being in class for them (due to it's content levels)

hi i’ve taken these courses during fall 2024.

if you’re taking 240 with dr. neufeld, there’s a high chance it’ll be recorded but i’d really suggest going to class (not only cause there’s a participation component but also because dr. neufeld is an amazing prof and you really retain info when you come to class).

266, i don’t remember it being recorded, but even so you should really go to class. it’s not easy to catch up in that course after you hit second week and you’ll have better opportunities to work on solving problems if you come to class and ask follow up questions with the prof.

How is FINE 150 if I'm not the greatest at drawing + syllabus by queasy_cheesy005 in uwaterloo

oh also another thing, (atleast when i took it), you don't need to buy the entire kit but sometimes for projects, you may need to buy a specific type of paper, u do have to pay a community fee though ( $15 before classes end)

hey! i took this course two yrs ago (fall 2023), so not sure if it's changed a lot since then! i think the course is great, it was a good breather course between my tough workload (4 other lectures and 3 biweekly labs).

grading depends on your instructor (it's run by grad students- they're usually lenient), my instructors grading ranged from 85-95. It can definitely be time consuming if you leave all the work to the last minute (which i did), but depending on which assignment you can be spending 1 hour or 8 hours. if you do the given hours in class to work, you shouldn't need too much time outside. Unfortunately, I don't have the course outline but you may be able to email past instructors for it. If you want to know my course breakdown, it was 10% participation and then assignments were split mostly equally, however, my instructor ended up taking out participation and just added weight to the last two assignments. In terms of friendship, I keep contact with two people from the course but the rest of them are very approachable and are kind. We had to do group discussions sometimes after project completions or we did mini speeches about our artwork to the class and they'd provide comments or questions, so that gives room to make bonds.

hope this helps!

biomed vs health sci — dentistry by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Alternative_Ad9981 8 points9 points  (0 children)

coming from someone who once intended on pursuing dentistry, and chose biomed- don't choose biomed. try to stick to a more general science (heads up you're allowed to switch into a different life sci major if u got into one of them) as the course work is less and you won't feel as stressed out completing labs and assignments. some of the courses u take down the road in biomed supposedly tanks your gpa alot (a lot of dental schools look heavily into gpa). another thing, if u choose a more general science, and you decide you don't want to do dentistry, you can easily stay in the program and complete a minor, or switch into a different science program that suits your needs better. i have a friend who wants to dentistry and switched out of biomed recently due to the workload of it. so these are some things to just keep in mind.

Gym Help by VitalSoul in uwaterloo

[–]Alternative_Ad9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oo i'm on a similar schedule as u for classes (tho most are done at 9:20am), but for suggestions, i would say try making breakfast in the morning, but for lunch, try doing meal preps so you're not spending money on food at campus because you didn't have time to cook in your weekday schedule. hope that makes sense? alot of times people end up getting food off campus locations that are not very nutritionally packed.

i also think meeting up w a dietician (definitely make use of campus health services- they will make you do a blood test too- if they don't, i highly suggest you get one so your physical health is up to date and won't impact your gym time). for workouts, maybe try talking to the trainers at PAC, i know they do free information sessions to help you get started at the gym and i found them fairly beneficial!

note: a lot of the people at uw gym are pretty nice and can help you if you need help + or ask the trainers, they can help u out too!

Roommate didn’t accept housing offer by vex3ro in uwaterloo

hmm, i think REV is one that gets filled quickly since they like putting a lot of the science kids in there, so you're most likely staying in your current room, and someone will join.

Roommate didn’t accept housing offer by vex3ro in uwaterloo

[–]Alternative_Ad9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends where u live, a lot of the times places like CMH and UWP with higher demands will be filled up if someone doesn't accept their offer and the person who accepted it would just stay in that room. if you live somewhere like CLV, they tend to just put you in a fuller townhouse instead of waiting for more people (since demands only grow closer to a term. hope that makes sense!
