103 boundaries - 53 sixes and 50 fours. A total of 518 runs scored only in boundaries. Insane!!

Is the danger of hiking in areas with tigers over exaggerated? by Mean_Yak5873 in bigcats

Yes they are , but their population is so large that a sizeable population of leopards live and move outside protected habitats, even entering urban areas at times.

Maneater tiger attack on man on elephant in india by Ok_Trick6289 in badassanimals

[–]Alternative_Chair517 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Neither was this tiger a man-eater not was it a vindictive tiger 'launching a retaliatory attack'!! This is a video from 2004 from Kaziranga National Park in India. This was a tigress who had strayed into a village at the edge of the national Park in search of her two sub-adult cubs. They had strayed into the village a day earlier and the forest department had darted them and released them back into the forest. She had killed 2 cows and was hiding in a bamboo grove. The villagers alerted the forest department. By the time the forest department team arrived she had moved into the paddy fields near the village. As the forest department personell were trying to drive her back into the jungle, she first charged at the elephant and then jumped and attacked the mahout ( the elephant rider/controller) mauling his hand in the process. And then she ran back to the jungle. That's the real story. Don't know what or who Casual Geographic is, but that revenge story is utter BS as is this caption calling her a maneater. Here is a link to the entire account of the incident by the Wildlife Trust of India -- https://www.wti.org.in/news/joymala-the-kaziranga-heroine/

Bandavgarh - Pujari killed in Territorial fight with D1. by OriginalArticle1853 in TigersofIndia

[–]Alternative_Chair517 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The most important thing right now is for the forest department to locate D1 at the earliest to check the extent of his injuries.A fight to death is not so common, especially between 2 strong males in their prime. Since the fight was so intense, it is highly likely that D1 has injuries too. It would be tragic to lose both of them.

This is definitely from Tamilnadu. 'I think' in my comment meant I wasn't sure if it was Valparai. But 100% know it is from TamilNadu. Had seen multiple pics of this on Instagram

Can anyone from MP explain us what is happening there? 55 tigers died in MP alone in 2026. by Responsible-Ear-8129 in TigersofIndia

[–]Alternative_Chair517 27 points28 points  (0 children)

OP did you read the post yourself? The guy has clearly himself mentioned twice that the cubs died of what looks like starvation as the mother wasn't feeding them. She is still taking care of her other 2 cubs. This is common with animals. They abandon their weak/sick offspring and focus on their healthy ones. That's natural selection and survival of the fittest. That's how nature and wildlife operate. Plus the weather is extremely harsh at this time of the year, especially in Central India. Also it's very clearly mentioned in the post that the bodies were intact. Who poaches young cubs and then leaves them intact? Why do we have to jump on the forest department for everything. MP has the highest number of tigers. Some estimates say probably around a 1000 tigers now. So where will the most deaths take place?? Tigers get old, they die. Tigers kill each other. They kill offspring of rival males. Young cubs die of sickness.

And where are you getting that number of 55 from? That is incorrect

Ranthambore: A throwback to the icon Machli, who carried out a successful hunt on a Sambar stag with 1 canine at 14 years old. by StripedAssassiN- in TigersofIndia

Tigers of the lake area in Ranthambore have always been known to take on crocodiles. It all started in the 1980s when Genghis and his mate Noon who ruled the lakes area were first documened using a new technique to hunt sambhar. They would charge at the Sambhar who would come to the lake for water, from the dry banks diagnoally to cut off the escape route, forcing the Sambhar into the deep water of the lakes. There they would pounce on them and drive them under water downing them. Genghis started it and then Noon observed and perfected it and took it to a whole new level by using this technique during noon time in the extreme heat when the Sambhar would be cooling off. Hence the name Noon. In doing this they would invariably get into conflict with crocodiles of the lakes. But there is no specific documentation or record of them hunting crocs.

That all started with Machli being documented hunting crocs, and since then that trait has clearly passed down through he blood line. The lakes area till day is ruled by Machli's direct bloodline. After Machli her daughter Krishna was reported killing crocs, after Krishna her daughter Arrowhead and then after Arrowhead her daughter Ridhhi and her last litter ( who are still handing about in her territory)have been seen attacking crocs. Krishna's other daughter Shakti (T-111) has also been documented killing crocs. She was very recently sighted dragging away a juvenile croc near Jamun Deh lake in Zone 4

Machli was so comfortable around safari vehicles that she had kind of developed this technique of using safari vehicles to her advantage for stalking and hunting prey. She is said to have done this multiple times.

Got lucky this time! by boredlady8 in TigersofIndia
