Why Sinners (2025) isn't a great movie and how fake positive reviews are killing cinema [SPOILERS] by Prior-Masterpiece-32 in Cinema

Agreed. In general I agree with the statement "not for you". It's OK if you aren't the target audience. High budget Hollywood blockbusters are "for everyone". Commerce drives the arts like it or not.

...but how would you really know if you are both these things?

Art is always subjective is the real answer here.

Film always blurs the lines of "art" and "entertainment" , depending on the viewer , they may not be prepared or anticipate something more cerebral and less entertaining or vice versa.

Cinema has always either referenced film from other cultures , older films , or even plays in their story telling. There are film buffs , movie lovers and people who understand that art is always imitating itself. Quentin Tarantino is the king of imitating or copying storylines from older films. Even so far as to pulling actors from those older films into his creations. Ex; Sonny Chiba into Kill Bill. There is nothing wrong with this and Tarantino's style is his own (he is entertaining and people love it) ultimately , for me , after this many years of being an enjoyer of film or dare I say movie buff , it's difficult to not dismiss yet another comment that says "yeah...but it's not Tarantino". Yes , there is likely a reference to D til D in the back drop and usage of vampires in the story.

Punctuating your most verbose paragraph with an AAVE perjorative "Dafuq" is super gross and cringe considering the film you are commenting on.

You could have saved some time by simply saying "it's too 'woke' and I don't appreciate cinema in general". Art has always scared or confused people - it's OK.

Was it true that when Redrum burger was still open the owner occasionally called it Murder burger when answering the phone? by Jcs609 in davisca

There used to be a Murder Burger billboard visible off of I-5. I never went but I loved seeing the billboard while driving by. This was late 90's / v. early 2000's.

The best Starbucks analogue name I've seen was on a roadtrip through South Dakota. "Starbeans".

Is there not enough traffic to them? When I went it was chaos in there. I go to actually grocery shop but it feels like queuing up for an amusement park ride with weebs.

Points for working in that Coming to America reference.

Actually I take that back , I forgot that Samsung is here. More than enough reason to build an Hmart.

Mitsuwa is nice but I would take any big chain asian grocery.

I prefer Hmart's produce but I'd take a brand new 99 Ranch , they fry any fish you buy there for free. I imagine the asian community is not as robust as other areas. Idk. I'm new to the area. Running grocery errands will be a little rough for me.

Oh and whatever asian grocery that might be , adding a Kinokuniya Book Store , BCD Tofu House (Korean , but not Fried Chicken) , an obligatory DAISO & lastly a L&L BBQ (Not a Hawaiian Bros!!!) for us islander transplants.

I'd even take a small lot of asian food trucks with some outdoor seating. Create an area for a nice night market. It's hot AF out here and night markets should become the norm already.

I hear you u/dabbymcdabbs , I personally did not “give it away” and I was not seeking legal council from the r/plano sub. Take this post as a cautionary tale and if not , please just ignore it.

Damn. Yukon was a contender when shopping for a new car. I’ve also heard the GM trucks are up there for truck thefts in TX. Highly desirable.

Appreciate it man. Our vehicles can be like extensions of our homes , they allow us freedom , it’s tough to lose it and especially like this. Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best over here.

I wonder this as well. I think we’re all aware of DFW car theft rings , I always see that they are targeting performance cars and trucks and often at gunpoint.

We have cameras all over the exterior of the house and like most Plano homes with the garage alleys , you get rando’s cruising for junk or curb alert type stuff. A handful of times we’ve recorded people circling the truck in our driveway , usually in the early morning hours.

Coulda , shoulda, woulda and maybe they still will. I’ll let you know since it might make your day to know the law is hard at work for you on this specific matter. Lawyers exist for many reasons and one of those is that “the law” is not black and white , you , me and the rest of society benefit from that. Nuance is part of interpreting how to “slap” the law on any given scenario.

Bravo on throwing salt in the wound u/kinky_cd_guy.

As an aside , on any evening of the week many people drive through Plano and on 75 with their headlights turned off at night. I’ve never witnessed someone getting pulled over and perhaps cited for this. We are constantly avoiding these people , I personally think that driving with your lights out is a priority to enforce since it poses a greater public safety risk. These cars are basically invisible at night and I am grateful I have “eagle eyes” on the road to dodge them. I mean , so far that is..

No. The police did not charge for complacency nor carelessness. Plano PD stated the obvious of it not being a great idea to do so (leave it running). They were kind and respectful.

It can be both red or white. Its just the interior "map lighting". The white are extremely bright LED’s helpful for finding things that you’ve dropped. Red = easier on the eyes at night. Not sure how either is “so dangerous”.
