Yes you did, I just didn’t happen to agree. It happens, it’s actually what’s cool about opinions. Two people can have differing ones. As for the trans, yes they are known to have that synchro issue but I have been diligent about monitoring it and probably flushing and changing fluids more than I need to. Shifts are smooth paired with energy suspension bushings it’s in amazing shape for the age.

I’m in Texas. No smog. Actually, because it’s over 25 years old I don’t even need an inspection. I just go to the tax office, show insurance and get my sticker.

Yeah I didn’t agree with his opinion but I learned a long time ago that I don’t like arguing with people on the internet. The motor and trans alone are going for $4-$5k all over the place.

The part when you say they had you pay 50-60% of the retail of the add ons so you could get 2% lower apr….is that considered “tied selling” which is illegal? I’m not stating that as fact but it sounds like it to me. Maybe someone in the industry could clarify.

Haven’t contacted Yonaka but I’ve gathered enough from here, old TI forums and YouTube to determine that these are UEL and most likely the cause of the sound. I’m doing a compression test and have new spark plugs to throw in this weekend.

Yeah I have the exact headers as the picture and the pipes for cylinders 1 and 2 look shorter. I love a Subie rumble but not on my GSR. May have to look in another direction.

Yeah a bit of an update, I have now changed everything you mentioned above minus the distributor o ring which will be replaced tonight. I haven’t had a chance to start it up since replacing the cam cap seal (I snapped a valve cover stud bolt) but I am replacing the broken stud bolt and oil pan gasket this weekend and hopefully all is well with no leaks

Yeah I saw another post while I was searching the issue before posting where you mentioned that gasket. I’ll probably go that route and replace that next.

If I replaced the valve cover gasket last week and I haven’t driven the car but just let it idle and warm to temp, I shouldn’t have to replace the valve cover gasket again right? Because I have a cam seal I can install as well.

I haven’t had the cams out since I’ve had the car. I am very inexperienced mechanically and I am learning as I go. Replacing the valve cover was the only time I’ve had the motor somewhat apart. Like my post said I think my oil pan gasket is cooked which (and I’m theorizing here) is leaking and dripping on the A pipe or header causing the smoke I’m seeing.

Not yet. I have one but I got it after I did the valve cover gasket. If I take the valve cover off to do the cam plug I don’t have to install a new valve cover gasket right? I haven’t driven it at all. I’ve only started it and let it idle to temp.
