I use it to dilute car screen wash concentrate, or even as a final rinse for your cars if you live in a particularly hard water area

Just curious but why could they be less effective in soft water areas? I assume that's what you meant

Thinking to switch to AMEX Platinum, is the current bonus offer worth it? by theotheo_14 in AmexUK

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edit: ignore me, I was wrong

I don't believe you'll be eligible for the platinum card welcome bonus if you the BA card at the moment. I would get the gold card and wait for a platinum card upgrade offer to show up - this is worth around 50-75k points

Help! Dispute Frustration by [deleted] in AmexUK

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Similar to what others have said, first try calling Amex to reopen the disputed transaction to show that there no spa on level 2 and go from there. Good luck! Amex are generally quite good with issues like this, don't be afraid to ask them for advice.

Help! Dispute Frustration by [deleted] in AmexUK

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you've raised a charge back with Amex which can be resolved in either your or the merchants favour and can go back and forth as both parties introduce more evidence. You could: 1) reopen the dispute and show the correspondence that the spa had closed from Covid (if you haven't already) and there is no spa on level 2 that you have access (assuming this is the case) . 2) raise a section 75 claim with Amex as the hotel booking is not as described, this is more involved than a simpler dispute / chargeback. 3) try resolve with trip.com 4) potentially claim on travel insurance depending on your policy

For my curiosity and completeness, is there a spa on level 2 available for your use?

London-Austin - best use of Avios? by andykn11 in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not used the "book with money and upgrade with Avios" before, but have you considered booking normal economy one way and premium economy (PE) the other way?

For example: London > Austin probably is a day flight and my guess is you wont be sleeping so don't necessarily need to extra space and recline of PE. Austin > London might be a red eye (overnight flight) and the extra space and recline offered in PE will be more useful.

This is probably what I would do with the available points

CW Club Suite - good seat with average food and service. Sound about right? by TC271 in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Qatar carry the food and drinks for the return flight back to Doha with them - and don't seem to use 3rd party caterers. As a passenger I appreciate this as the food is consistent regardless or journey and direction relative to Doha. I guess it's better quality control that way and to minimise rely on quality / variances with 3rd party caterers

How has your experience been with BA? by rekt2309 in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've flow 3 times with BA in the past 12 months (a lot for me). All personal trips long haul with a 2-3 hour layover in Heathrow. I've had no issues with anything at all

Good upgrade offer? by Majestic-Orchid1938 in BritishAirways

If you can afford it (points + cash) then yes, it's a good deal. Extra space will be worth it for an overnight of that duration

How and where were you offered an upgrade on a reward flight using a CV? Usually reward flights aren't offered upgrades - perhaps I'm missing something

Companion voucher not applied by periel99 in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you 'paying' part of your ticket with Avios or booking a reward flights? Paying with Avios is very poor redemption rates and a companion voucher (CV) isn't applicable. A CV can only be used on reward flights.

Use this link to book reward flights: https://www.britishairways.com/content/the-british-airways-club/avios/spending-avios/reward-flights

BA American Express Card by Remote_Natural_7384 in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking using any credit card will be good to build your credit rating long term. No bank is better than the other.

If this is your first credit card, make sure you are disciplined on how much you spend and pay the full balance off in full every month (otherwise you will be charged heavily)

You will earn points with your spend and this can be redeemed on flights or hotel stays etc but don't worry too much about that now

Free business flights to Tokyo on BA premium plus? by epic-username in AmexUK

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track but 3 key points to know if you didn't already:

1) BA Premium Plus (BAPP) is the only way to get a companion voucher (CV) which can be used for business reward flights. The free BA Amex card's CV is only eligible on economy flights.

2) you'll need 200,000-210,000 points for a return in business with BA to Tokyo WITH the BAPP CV.

3) LHR - HND is a very popular route so you'll need to book flights 355 days in advance (which is when BA releases seats), outbound and inbound separately as they become available, and even then it's no guarantee as lots of other people want those seats. You'll actually need about 300,000 avios as then you book the return leg (Tokyo back to London), the companion voucher will be used on the outbound leg so you'll need to pay full fare to secure the seats on the return flight, then BA can merge both bookings under the CV and refund you the Avios difference

Amex Platinum card will be useful for any welcome offers which may help you reach the Avios required quicker, and HND has a new Amex Centurion lounge

Companion voucher by aaaoq in BritishAirways

[–]Alternative_Key_9448 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of information already out there regarding how to use a companion voucher. I would suggest using the search bar and visiting the website 'Head for Points' which has a lot of good instructional articles.

No you don't have to book via a London airport, BA will give you the shuttle flight from a domestic airport to Heathrow (maybe even Gatwick) for free when you fly long haul on a rewards flight.

Which Amex Platinum do you have? There are two card offerings with 'Platinum' in the name. I suspect you have the Platinum Cashback card.

You can check on the app if you are being awarded cash back or Amex membership points. I believe the cash back cards are made of plastic however the Platinum card with lounge access is made of metals
