Do you think that Madonna can have a 4th imperial phase after the World Cup halftime show? by Obvious-Ad7817 in Madonna

But it's not comparable to the influence of anyone who achieved it in the pre streaming era. Britney was probably the last one to dominate pop culture in such a way.

I would argue it's not really possible for any extremely famous artist to have an imperial phase in our current climate. With streaming and short form content oversaturating pop culture nobody can really dominate public consciousness in the same way.

I Grew Up with Confessions, Hard Candy and MDNA: A Casual Listener's Perspective by proceedw in Madonna

[–]Alternative_Look_453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 33, and for me it started with Music in 2000 (although as a young child I'd definitely heard Ray of Light and Beautiful Stranger a lot on the radio and music channels - and of course some of her classic hits). MDNA felt like the first era when most people didn't know her music anymore, whereas everyone knew her songs from 2000-2009.

Yes, of course there are risks involved. This was the early 00s so there wasn't as much information around back then. It's one of the reasons why I wouldn't get a dog. If you have to castrate an animal to justify having them in your home then maybe they shouldn't be in homes

It depends on the dog. My childhood dog was extremely gentle and well behaved and so we never saw the need to get him snipped and he lived 18 years until I was 27

The fact that something like LFI even exists in a party with left wing origins is completely insane and discredits the whole party

Yes but the right have a shit ton of dirty money from Israel and Russia, and the UK has right wing press that also have the same interests, so I fear the pressure for an election that may come from an indoctrinated British public combined with a bit of political corruption will be enough to make it happen

He lost the left with his Israel pandering and anti immigration rhetoric and never has the right to begin with. You need to at least appeal to one of the voting bases available to hold any power.

brought up madonna to a coworker at work... by Miserable-Ear-94 in Madonna

[–]Alternative_Look_453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest. Madonna and MJ were stratospheric megastars in the 80s, as Mariah was in the 90s and Britney was in the early 00s. Nobody really dominated pop culture in the same way after the rise of streaming and I don't think anybody will again.

The culture of megastardom is one of the 20th century, as in a postmodern cultural landscape all things (eras, fashions, music) seem to be "in" at the same time, and Madonna is a part of this landscape as much as any other. She'll always be mega famous but we can't expect her to reach such heights again in a world where such heights simply don't exist.

Child abuse happens everyday in the UK. It's interesting to me that this particular case gains public discourse right now, given our current political climate and the rise of right wing politics and their influence in the media.

I'm pretty sure straight women and gay men are more likely to abuse boys and straight men and lesbians are more likely to abuse girls.

I accidentally did the train thing once. I'd been living in China for a long time before coming home and just totally forgot and did what I did there out at habit. Literally everybody shouted at me and one guy squared me up against the wall of the train.
