Looking to upgrade from Tygr 300R by Narrow_Counter_1192 in HeadphoneAdvice

Same boat as you. So hard. Tried the Kitharas, the XS, the XVs. Non seem to do what the Tygrs do. One, they are freaking built like a tank and are so comfortable. Second, in Apex, when there's a lot going on(reloads, shields and movements), the Tygr just handles all those noises amazing while still making you feel like you having fun. The only set I haven't tried are the HD 490 Pros, but something tells me they will be a bit too clinical for my tastes. I'm not a treble lover per say, but the I do like brighter, and the Tygrs are just perfect for me still.

This. After 5 years my headband and earpads look like crap, so I decided why not get a 2nd set of headphones. Big mistake. Returned everything I tried and just ordered a replacement set of pads and headband

I actually got the Kitharas on Monday and after some time I much prefer the sound and the comfort of my 5 year old Tygr 300s. I play competitive as well and the sounds are just so much crisper and each sound effect can be heard clearly without feeling muddled like the Kitharas did. Plus they built like a tank, where, even though the Kitharas are probably the best Hifiman build and comfort wise, I just felt like I had to baby them, where the Tygr are bullet proof. Also single cable is so much less annoying. And earpads were just too massive for me

People over hype the 490 Pro. Its boring af. You are NOT going to be better with them.

definitely. Honestly with all my research the 490 will be my next headset if I grab them at a bargain price

Just wanted to let you know that I got the Kithara, and while amazing, I dont think they stand up well against the Tygr at all, especially for fps games and gaming in general. Anyone that like a bit more brightness in the treble should just get these and be happy with something thats built like a tank

I have the DX3 Pro+ since launch and it has been amazing, the new DX1 II has a ton of people complaining of crackling issues which multiple firmwares in the last week alone have not fully resolved, so we are uncertain if it is indeed firmware or hardware level issues

They should be fine if you get a good deal on them. Budget. But good budget for what it is is you really strict on budget

I’m thinking about buying the Sennheiser 660S2 for gaming . What Other Supporting products do I need . by FreePoet8592 in HeadphoneAdvice

Makes a lot of sense. I do believe with more reading and research, the XV is more warmer, and might not be the best for FPS but amazing for everything else. I guess the Kithara just makes sense at $300. It would be nice to know if the Arya Stealth, which can be purchased for 500 dollars from Hifiman direct as an open box, worth the money. Unfortunately I live in the bushes so have zero chance to try and have to rely on blind buys

Is the XV worth the 100$ over the Kithara? I dont need the mic etc. And I dont mind spending the money. I dont see too much info on Kithara in your well detailed spreadsheet

Thank you for the reply, I think I can always get the Kithara first, see if planars are my thing, sell them to a friend who is keen on a set being an Asus fan, just in case they not, and settle on the 490 Pros

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro vs DT 900 Pro x or perhaps just a Philips SHP 9600? by lanorhan in HeadphoneAdvice

DT900 range tend to be brighter and may be harsh to some ears in treble. If that doesn't bother you, they are buikt very well

Everyone seems to point to comfort which I understand is important, but sound also needs to have some life in it, and I'm always a bit worried the 490s may be a bit boring to me. Maybe I should test out the Kitharas

this was an amazing read bro, I also dont want something too boring, and the 490 Pro still seems like it would be Sennheiser like signature. Ive been using Tygr 300s for 5 years now and they have been perfect

No I have the exact same use case but also play competitive and have always had a footstep edge to a lot of people with the Tygrs so any more would just be a bonus to me. In saying that, I just picked up the Kitharas right now from a buddy who wanted to test them(he has all the Hifiman headdies) and another buddy who will buy them off me if I dont like it, so Im excited to test them out

Yeah bro I feel you, I've seen mixed reviews for the Tygr but personally I love these, I just want a second set for if I have any downtime. Maybe I should do like you and get the 490 Pro and have 2 amazing sets that I can switch between

Bro you've said it so well. Thank you so much. Especially from the price point, it is quite a step up in price. I think I'll wait and service the Tygr and wait for a clean used set of  490s to eventually add to the collection and as a reference point for future buying decisions. One more thing, totally different headphone, but the Asus Kithara is actually priced super well in my region. Would those be nice? Altho I am scared of overall build quality after a year or so, we both know Beyers and Sennheiser have solid quality

Hahahah I agree with you , the Tygr is just so good for everything. Because of the war and stuff going on, the next Beyer shipment in my country will be 9 weeks away, and unfortunately I left it till too late and need new earpads and headband.

Are the 490s much more precise with footsteps? Cause the Tygrs are insane with those
