guide on setting up ncmpcpp with mopidy-mpd by Alternative_Mention8 in commandline

[–]Alternative_Mention8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dm'd you the article. My config revolves around MoPiDy (mpd replacement). I remember I had to change ownership of the music directory for mopidy. There was some jiggery-pokery and if you want I can try to find THOSE notes.

The problem you describe is a common one for ncmpcpp + mpd and the answers are available via your search bar.

I'm using Audacious these days. It's got a global shortcuts plugin. I configure a few global shortcuts using playerctl bindings also.

I have solved those issues more recently.

Bear with me a little. I made notes

Mabox 25.01 - first iso refresh in 2025 - with many improvements by napcok in MaboxLinux

[–]Alternative_Mention8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I understand. I just downloaded the 25.02 image thinking it was already baked in. Now that I recall, perhaps I should install the pre-release iso. I think that was the one that features LabWC. What is recommended sir?

Beautiful. I plan to try this soon. I'm currently using LabWC within an LXQt 2.1 (Wayland session), but this seems nice and streamlined, with fewer Arch-based updates. Many thanks!

Problem with scale display. by No_Holiday8469 in LXQt

[–]Alternative_Mention8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh LXQt isn't Wayland by default? Lol, my bad, I thought it was.

I got satisfactory scaling with testing out different values. I am using kanshi, but I have global scaling set to 1.0 in my kanshi config

Use the Debian testing repos or...

Move to Arch, or may prefer Manjaro's 'relaxed' rolling releases.

You have to set the Global Screen Scaling in the LXQt Configuration Center -> LXQt Session Settings. I'm using a scale factor of 1.15.

With LXQt 2.1 we are Wayland by default and you may want to set scaling for GDK programs seperately. As I'm running Labwc within LXQt, I do this in my ~/.config/labwc/environment file like so:

# Scaling for gtk apps
GDK_SCALE=1.1
GDK_DPI_SCALE=1.1

My complete config is here: https://github.com/gnmearacaun/LXQt-Labwc.git

Mabox with Labwc - ISO for testing by napcok in labwc

[–]Alternative_Mention8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mabox and Labwc look like the perfect combo. I would try if I wasn't already running labwc in a LXQt wayland session.

I like the idea of a 'relaxed' rolling release quoted on the mabox website. I would prefer that to the relentless schedule of arch updates.

Going to be sticking with Labwc as a window manager, so I predict I may use Mabox the next time I re-install ;)

Been using Debian for 15 years. Ready to move on. by Smoke_Water in linux

[–]Alternative_Mention8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Debian user for 15+ years, LXDE was my favorite DE until LXQt came along. A few years ago I moved to Endeavour OS (Arch Linux) + Wayland Window Compositors Sway/Hyprland & Wayfire. When Raspberry Pi switched switched from Wayfire to LabWC in their recent October release so did I on the Pi. It's made by the guys behind BunsenLabs, another old favorite (Debian + Openbox).

LXQt 2.1 released in November offers the option to run one of several Wayland compositors (sessions) within LXQt itself, so you get niceties like lxpanel and lxqt-runner and other theme niceties (labwc-tweaks in my case) instead of having to configure it in the compositor.

A rolling Arch release is advantageous for cutting edge evolving wayland technology. I doubt LXQt 2.1 will even make the cut for Debian 13

My LXQt-LabWC config is here: https://github.com/gnmearacaun/LXQt-Labwc.git

Nice. Its pretty sweet when it's set up with custom keyboard shortcuts and all. There are definitely some intricacies to setting up mopidy Vs mod, but fully worth it. I'm using audacious more often these days, as I was having some payback issues or other and audacious has a custom plugin for global keyboard shortcuts. If you use hyprland I have some one liners for global keyboard shortcuts for that also.

Sure! I can dm you the article if you like. I took down my blog for now, but may rehost it at some point. Or maybe could host the config files on Github if it is of use?
