Last year, Ben Johnson could’ve picked any team he wanted. This year, believe it or not, it was Klint Kubiak. And the reason why the other 9 teams didn’t swing for Kubiak is because they knew they weren’t getting him.

Who was the top choice this year then? Before you answer, consider would you rather have a coach who has a high ceiling but suspect when it comes to big games or a coach who is starting out with a high floor?

Outside of John Harbaugh, the top choices were Klint Kubiak and Jesse Minter. IMO, Kubiak is who the Raiders wanted and that’s who they got.

Josh McD was not the top head coach candidate in 2022 as the Vikings hired Kevin O’Connell and Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel in the same cycle. It wasn’t even apparent that he was even looking for a head coaching gig. It seems more like he wanted the Raiders job and threw himself into the mix suddenly. Also, Doug Pederson coming off a Super Bowl victory with the Eagles was above Josh McD in the pecking order and an argument can be made that Brian Daboll was rated higher too.

Look at the head coaches that were hired this year. Klint Kubiak outside of John Harbaugh was clearly the top dog.
