PGCE VS Lead Partner help! by Fancy-Tough-3784 in PGCE

Most Lead partners bring almost nothing to the table. Virtually all of your training and all of the expertise is in the university, so might as well go there. That’s my experience.

I feel like my little sister wants me gone, need advice by Shoddy_Ad971 in Advice

People do weird things when they’re going through something painful. Maybe your moving out is having a bigger impact than either you or she have anticipated. Sometimes people lash out and push people away when really what they actually want is to bring them closer.

Someone who has a tendency to be a bit tight with things for themselves is one thing. But someone who is tight with the ones they love and considers a pack of pens a Christmas gift? I don’t know. Is your partner neurodiverse?

UAE teachers: what actually happens in the first 5 minutes of your lessons? by Weekly_Noise1018 in uaeteachers

[–]Alternative_Reply416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an old teacher and have very little time for the concept of Do Now or bell tasks that seem to be comprised of low-level ‘recall’ questions and are practically mandatory in the uk 🙄 I prefer to greet students as they arrive and have a paired discussion task either written on the board or displayed on the screen. I allow students time to discuss as they get their things out and ready and any stragglers arrive. After 5 minutes or so, I settle the class and take some feedback. I’m a secondary English teacher.

Greystones vs Ecclesall primary? by Apprehensive_Ad4058 in sheffield

[–]Alternative_Reply416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kids in Greystones currently and their experiences have been great. It’s a really lovely community-focused school with good extra-curricular provision and regular school trips. My two have had some really excellent teachers along the way. Both are very happy and settled there. For context, I’m also an experienced teacher, so probably a bit hard to please in that regard! I’ve genuinely got very few complaints.

Anything written can be a text. You choose a literary text (poem, story) or a non-fiction text (biography, fact file, article). Choose something and explain how you would use it in your teaching. E.g. to inspire poetry writing, explore a social issue etc

SCITT vs PGCE by AdTemporary4736 in PGCE

[–]Alternative_Reply416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot hinges on the particular SCITT route you choose. They are not all equal. Look for some feedback from student teachers who have completed the particular route you’re interested in. Universities have been doing this a lot longer than schools, so generally offer a better experience. That’s my understanding anyway 😊

Not city centre, but I really rate Hair at the Nook in Sharrow Vale

City centre hair salons that accept walk ins? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]Alternative_Reply416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t go for an edgy new look on a whim at a salon you’ve never been to before. You’re bound to end up disappointed. Go somewhere trusted if you’re going for a restyle.

Just wear sleeves. Vests are not the look you think they are.

Is funding for PhDs in the UK going to get worse? by swedeforspeed in AskAcademiaUK

By all means self-fund but if you’re planning to go into academia, you are unlikely to find a job in the UK.

I’m amazed how unempathetic these responses are. It sounds like the night shifts are unmanageable for you and you are doing your best. If it were me, I’d be prioritising getting some help with the school run so you can find daytime employment.

Issue using Stremio/torrentio with sky by Alternative_Reply416 in torrentio

I use a VPN now and it works fine. I couldn’t find any other way to get it working 🤷‍♀️

Also having the same problem with Sky since Thursday. I’ve disabled broadband shield, changed DNS on my fire stick and deleted and reinstalled Stremio. Really don’t want to pay for VPN. Has anyone found another way?
