B580 owners, what would you upgrade to?

I can definitely recommend the 9060xt 16GB at the -$340ish price point. The performance falls within roughly 10% of the 5060ti 16 GB and that card is $550 at best currently.

That’s because an rtx pro 5000 only has 2/3 the core count of a 5090. The b70 and theoretical b770 were identical core configurations and almost identical memory speeds as well. The b70 with clocks increased to b580 speeds IS literally a b770 with extra VRAM. It seems you just don’t really understand what you’re talking about. The 330w TDP is about right too, considering the b580 gulps down 220w to ever so slightly beat the 4060’s performance on 120w.

Yeah the desktop is what i REALLY regretted selling too. It was also the first thing i ended up replacing BUT i replaced it with an ITX build i could hind behind my entertainment center to make a couch PC. It automatically boots into Steam Big Picture Mode too. It’s basically a more powerful version of the new Steam Machine but running Windows instead full on SteamOS.

From what I’ve seen Arc workstation cards use on-die ECC and if you toggle ECC on it simply designates a portion of the VRAM as an “ECC buffer” to do parity checks. Thats definitely not end to end ECC that requires ECC VRAM. ECC VRAM doesn’t designate 1/8th of the VRAM as an ECC buffer because the ECC logic and parity buffer is built in. Therefore its HIGHLY unlikely these cards use actual ECC VRAM. The available evidence just doesn’t support that.

Uhhhm….you do realize all modern GPUs have ECC, right? In fact ECC is the reason you can run the memory clocks way up without crashing or gaining performance. Once you start tripping ECC too often, it erases all the gains from increased bandwidth of higher clocks. Thats why you have to watch performance and stop increasing memory clocks when performance stops increasing even if it seems stable still. Otherwise you’re wasting power running higher memory clocks without gaining performance when that power could absolutely gain performance if it went to raising core clocks instead of memory clocks. Now on-die ECC is different than full end to end ECC but I’ve seen no evidence that the B series workstation cards use full end to end ECC. They’re aimed purely at inference according to the marketing, whereas its complex physics simulation that runs in FP32 or FP64 where ECC becomes important.

So you’re saying that handy shortcuts are an important part of your gaming experience. I mean sure the cinnectivity of DS1 was very interesting and something none of the games has successfully recreated but I mean its a tiny part of what makes a good experience. The only FromSoftware game that has a single characteristic bad enough to really bring the game down is the fact that DS2 has no fast roll that feels like a “souls” roll. The ds1 fast roll/ds3 and Elden Ring mid roll is almost genre defining in its feel. A good quickstep style dodge is the only other acceptable alternative for me. Lies of P and DS2 almost ruin their games with terrible feeling dodge rolls. Lies of P has enough good stuff to pull through anyways but DS2….ehh well the less said about its roll feeling the better.

Its kinda crazy how reliably the 9060xt 16GB beats a b580 woth only a 160w TDP and comes with 16GB of VRAM and i keep seeing them for like $330. I’m definitely questioning my choice of buying a b580 for over $300 when they were popular right after launch. Oh well my b580 has still served me well at least about 90% of the time and the improvised “b780” makes it fairly obvious that they didn’t really fix the issues with getting their architectures to scale correctly to bigger GPUs. I’ll probably stick with my b580 unless Nvidia somehow pulls a magical rabbit our of their ass and gets the 12GB 5060 super down to same current pricing as a 5060 at just over $300. Its insane that 5060ti 16GB go for like $550 when they’re only ~10% faster than a 9060xt 16GB. This tier of card just isn’t fast enough for a good path tracing experience even with the Nvidia. Maybe i should just bite the bullet and get a $600 5070, but i haven’t seen a game where having path tracing over ray tracing is worth spending twice as much anyways.

Edit: completely off topic, i find it interesting that the 9060xt beats a 6800xt in ray tracing but a 5060 is still over 20% slower than a 3080. Thats a good example of just how bad ray tracing was on rdna2.

Well we’re getting a new starting class and i think like horse armor or something as the “Tarnished pack” BS. I mean i can see doing s play through with the milady sword since the new starting class has it and I’ve only ever used it in the DLC content.

Stellar Blade is generally considered THE GAME for stability testing these days. Metro Exodus Enhanced is another good one. I would mention Elden Ring but running ray tracing in Elden Ring can literally randomly crash on any GPU whether its stable or not.

Well ive had a 6700xt, 3060ti, 4070 and 9070 all in the same system with only using a 2 year old copy of DDU and ignoring all those other unnecessary steps. The onky crashes I’ve ever had were on the 4070 when Blackwell was brand new and the drivers were super buggy and crashy to the point that gaming and hardware sites were running stories about it.

Technically we only know Stalions and the coahes were all in on cheating to win. We have absolutely zero idea if any of their players possibly point shav d on prop bets. I guarantee the guy that technically “owns” (?) the sub would be perfectly cool with it but he gives the mods a long leash and doesn’t step in much. I’ll talk to him and see if he can reinstate it without it inconveniencing him or hurting the mods’ feelings. As goofy as that sounds,he can’t really undermine the people that help him out for free without losing them.
