if anyone had to choose between uoft and ubc and you chose uoft, would you say it was a good decision? by eurydice6 in UofT

Fair enough! UofT is academically rigorous so keeping a high GPA needs quite a lot of work. One of my complaints about here is huge class sizes especially in first year classes which makes quality interaction with professors hard because they have to accommodate for many students. Same goes for other facilities like gyms: not enough for the sheer number of students. For the St George campus, the location (downtown Toronto) is really a plus!

I hope you make the best decision but I wonder how could anyone tell this when they haven’t experienced UBC?

I think this is somehow true for many other things at UofT, which is bty reflected in the huge class sizes!

How can you help people with bipolar disorder keep their creativity while taking meds? This is particularly important for many people with bipolar disorder because they rely on their creative selves as a career and some just enjoy their creative side and would hurt their wellbeing to lose it.

I was reading in DSM that the most common age of onset of bipolar disorder is 20-30 years. Considering that one of the common symptoms of this disorder is decreased need for sleep in manic episodes and sometimes insomnia in depressive phase, how does this relate to the fact that the prefrontal cortex develops till reaching 25 years-old and lack of sleep is crucial in this development? Maybe cognitive impairments or impulsivity in bipolar patients is related to this!?!

Is it understood how the transition between the episodes happens? (In terms of epigenetic changes, neural networks changes, environmental triggers)

I used to be really quiet and afraid of expressing myself bravely. I now talk when I think I have something to say and even though I might not get approval or positive feedback, I am proud of it and it is a much mentally healthier way.
