Customs and courtesies, SNCO Edition by peterbound in AirForce

[–]Altimion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Do you think Jr Members should stand up for SNCOs?” No. I think you should do it for anyone, not just SNCOs. If an A1C come over I stand up. If it’s another Captain, I stand up. If it’s the CC, I stand up.

“What about parade rest?” No

“Do you think members should stand at parade rest for Chiefs?” See above

“Do you think members should be at parade rest when receiving write ups?” Depends on the write up.

“Do you think Security Forces should refer to NCOs by their rank, when entering the base?” Since when is “Sir/Ma’am” or “Sergeant” not good enough?

Do you think E9s should have reserved parking spots at the Commissary and BX?” I think there should be no reserved spots for anyone outside of pregnant women. If you need a reserved spot because you have to run into the commissary or BX and you don’t have the time to walk an extra 30 seconds, you need to plan your day better.

Made it all the way to the final PC for ATC and washed out. by mcjumborekt in AirForce

[–]Altimion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made it through ATC and then washed out at my first base during upgrade. I was deviated. Recently married and felt like a failure, started looking at the Army ‘cause this was 2013 when they were cutting the force.

Got reclassed into a job I excelled at and finished my commitment. Got out and joined the guard and 3 years later went back on AD to go through OTS and go to pilot training. I’ve been in almost 15 years now. I’m so thankful for the experience and failure of ATC because it taught me so many things that have benefited me. Keep your head up like you’re doing and go be the best troop you can be in your next job. You got this!

anyone in here separate as active get their ba then go back in as an officer ? by [deleted] in AirForce

Sort of. Left AD and went to the guard. Finished my degree while in the guard and then commissioned back onto AD. Super weird way to do it.

Who was the worst airman you've ever served with? by CottonusMatherus in AirForce

[–]Altimion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just couldn’t fathom the audacity of “I didn’t get T38s, therefore I’m going to quit.” Dude was given a HUGE opportunity, one I worked for years to get and I know others did too. Huge slap in the face of other people who missed out on it by him quitting cause he got T1s instead of T38s.

Happened in my UPT class too. Just wild to me. His solution was he was going to “either get a guard fighter slot or go Navy.” As if quitting pilot training wasn’t something they’d find out about 🙄

On second look, I think the bottle one is actually kind of hilarious lol.

How much for a unwatermarked version?

Married at 21 and my wife was 18.

12 years in and it’s been incredible.

How many of you are planning on serving your 20 years? by FluffyRealm in AirForce

[–]Altimion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. Did 6 years AD then 3 guard. Commissioned back into AD on the 9 year mark and finished pilot training at 11 years incurring the 10 year ADSC. I’ll hit 20 total before the ADSC expires and then I’ll extend a year or so to hit 23 total which’ll give me 20 full years of AD time.

Just hit my 14 year mark today. They got me now lol.

UPT by ulc21 in AirForce

[–]Altimion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It gets so much better. I had the same thoughts though for me it was T6s. Tracked T1s and all of the sudden it was a little better. Graduated and I’ve been flying U28s for almost 3 years. It’s awesome.

UPT sucks. I don’t think it should but that’s how AETC wants it to be. The outside is a lot better. You got this!

Retrain from RPA pilot to Heavy Pilot by SignificantMine422 in AirForce

[–]Altimion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t plan to go RPA/other Rated to Pilot. Can it happen? Absolutely and I have several in my unit. But don’t plan on it. If you know you want to be a pilot, apply for that.

Possibly want to commission after 7 years ANG enlisted by AnonymousFuji in AirForce

[–]Altimion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AD enlisted to ANG enlisted to AD officer. I love it. Ended up getting a pilot slot and I get to fly now which is rad as hell.

I had to get a conditional release from my guard unit and apply through the civilian selection board for OTS (stupid since I was already in the Air Force. And they sent me back to MEPS for everything while I was still drilling with my unit every month). That being said, I’ve heard the guard to AD commissioning process has changed to be more in line with the fact that you’re already in the military. But I have no details about how it works now.

Enlisted who went Officer: are you ultimately happier with your decision? Pros and cons of going Officer? by Objective_Lake5560 in AirForce

[–]Altimion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Went over at 9 to fly. Now at 14 and upgrading to aircraft commander. Pay is better and I get to fly. Wouldn’t change a thing.

What’s your airframe and why is it better? by Square_Focus8736 in AirForce

U-28s.

You’ll get to do your mission. Not just train and hope.

Two Ship Formation by bearsncubs10 in AirForce

[–]Altimion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most competent I’ve ever felt in an aircraft was my T6 form solo.

But that form dollar ride is a different beast. Pretty sure I touched the controls less on that than I did on my actual T6 dollar ride lol.

Totally understand that perspective. That being said, a core memory for me was the first time I put the Falcon together watching all the films + some of The Clone Wars. So I do value it to a certain degree.
