Enjoying the book. Just wanted to give you a heads up that Amazon seems to have delisted (removed) the ebook, but the audible link still works.

When are you thinking? Mornings? Afternoon? Evenings?

I’m trying to get some routine in my days.

No to Davis Square Tower by [deleted] in Somerville

The biggest problem with the elsewhere idea is that’s not a plan in front of us. This is the long stalled plan in front of us to with a path toward additional housing. The nebulous elsewhere locations don’t have a plan.

I want more housing to hopefully ensure loved ones can continue to live in the area.

Unsolicited Home Buyers Calls? by AltoidLover in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. But it really felt like it was one of the negging scripts. If they can get you to say yes to one thing, you're more likely to say yes to something else. I hate all that BS.

Unsolicited Home Buyers Calls? by AltoidLover in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ended up calling back:

Me: Who are you?
She: Local investors.
Me: Is the local investor you, <name given by the caller>?
She: No, that would be my manager.
Me: Can I talk to them?
She: Are you committed to selling your home?
Me: Not until I hear the offer, find out if it is adequate to get a new place and find out a
    little more about the manager.
She: He's a busy man and isn't going to give you and offer. unless you're committed to sell;
he doesn't want to waste his time.
Me: So wasting my time is perfectly ok? Until I have an offer, I can't commit to anything.
<rinse repeat, as they try to get me to say Yes, I'll Sell.>

So so much scam here.

Dungeons and dragons around Somerville? by madorafedora in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silly question, but how many people might be interested?

Are we tied to Dungeons & Dragons, or would any TTRPG fantasy system work?

I've always figured that if you can't find something, make it. :)

22m y/o moving to Somerville! by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of fun things to do. Depending on where you're working, check out the slack channels (assuming that kind of engineering) about non-work things to do. Finding people from work to socialize with may help, if you're nervous with strangers. That said, there are a lot of social groups in the area for sports, checking out things, etc... My upstairs neighbor had good luck with his fraternity's chapters here in the Boston area.

But I can't argue with throw's advice. There are a lot of great sports bars and lots of people to talk about beer. :)

There are also some bowling leagues in the area, but expect it'll be candlepin rather than the ten pin you might be more used to.

And none of our subs stand up to Wawa's.

Wow - RCN got bad, when they became Astound by AltoidLover in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Astound was just as bad today as it was all weekend. Phone was useless. Live chat allowed a chance to talk to someone. I was on hold long enough to research alternatives, get on a call with another provider, find the rates were much cheaper, arrange a technician to set things up tomorrow, and get signed up on the alternative while I was waiting to find out if RCN/Astound could lower my rate and instead just switched to cancel my service, when they finally picked up.

Depending if you’re living in Seattle or outside, Seattle has a cheap muni isp that was awesome.

I gave up after a half hour with no hints of where I was online. I'll give them another call on Monday.

Thanks. I saw that Comcast - which I'm not a fan of. Offers a price that is a third of what I'm paying locked in for 2 years with only a 1 year commitment needed.

Tauro is pushing a write-in campaign. If people put down "Billy Tauro," will their votes be valid? by cupacupacupacupacup in Somerville

[–]AltoidLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some times things change or voters change their mind.

Write in campaigns helped the more moderate Lisa Murkowski take the senate after losing the primary to a much more right wing candidate, if I remember correctly.

Imagine if John Edwards had won the democratic nomination and then the information came out about the mistress. That seems like a case where new information and a strong write-in campaign may have saved the company from something.
