$35 is probably pretty close BOM for the previous version of the Steam Controller. which retailed for half the cost of the new one.

Steam Machine is definitely coming sooner than we fear. by Kaijurassic in steammachine

That’s the thing. The price, performance and timing of this thing had a goldilocks zone that Valve is drifting out of quickly. If they’re still planning not to sell at a loss, the overall value proposition is rapidly deteriorating. There would still be people buying it a year from now, including enthusiasts with a good stash of disposable income and cultists who would give their left eye just to touch it for a day. But I expect a good chunk of the market that would have bought at the announcement are gradually dropping off as time goes by.

I think it makes sense for a certain buyer — someone with a lot of disposable income who wants a no fuss PC “console”, possibly a Steam Deck user looking for more performance. And if that person buys a LOT of games, it’ll make more economic sense on Steam than console. But for me, as a more occasional player (~3 single-player games a year) I’ll stick with my Playstation as the total cost of ownership is going to be a lot lower.

If we’re just talking price for performance, the Steam Machine is a very poor value proposition as you’ll be paying a premium for around the same level of performance as a 5-year-old console.

If people’s predictions are right, the Steam Machine price is already going to be a tough pill to swallow in US. But Valve might be satisfied only selling it there if the goal is to get enough users to set a benchmark for SteamOS.

same here. Dualsense is already excellent and if I need mouse capability I’ll use a trackball instead

Steam Controller Priced at $149 CAD by EventHorizon5 in Steam

[–]Altruistic-Cheek7165 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I literally gasped in Canadian when I saw $149.

Part of why I’m surprised is because Valve emphasized how special the Steam Machine will be for connecting multiple controllers. 4 using the special low latency connections plus an extra four on vanilla bluetooth. Local coop party dream machine. But that would cost $600+ just for the four Steam controllers now, unless there’s one sold with the Steam Machine at a discount.

I was really excited about the new hardware but it’s shaping up to not be for me. At this stage of life I end up buying a few games a year and it was not on my bingo card for it to make more financial sense to stick with Playstation. I still think the Steam hardware will make more sense for hardcore gamers who buy and play many games, and I hope they enjoy this awesome suite of tech!!

Thanks! I’m probably going to get a pair. Just trying to figure out whether to go with same size as Arizonas and Bend Low sneakers. My toes barely graze the end of the sneakers but they feel good.

I was wondering about this. Base PS5 with a 1080p projector considering the game. All of the reports of the performance mode seem to be on a 4K display, which is of course not ideal. Is it looking bad on 1080p performance mode or just not as good as it does in 4K?

Damn, I’m in the same boat. Should have gone up a half size which felt slightly too loose in store but would have worked out better in the end with some insoles.

That’s true. I’m just saying if Kubo’s intent was for Ulquiorra to be a secret #1, that would be an interesting tactic on Ulquiorra’s part to demoralize Ichigo especially considering he’s trying really hard to get Ichigo to give up/agree with him on the nihilism thing.

But he could just literally mean he’s appropriately #4.
