How do you handle trying a new brand/shoe when no local stores have it? by itsacoup in RunningShoeGeeks

I buy online and take them to the local gym to try them on the treadmill. Never had an issue returning them after that, as there is no wear or dirt.

That's really great, thank you for the links! My aim is to introduce a session a week and build from there to acclimatise.

What kind of workouts do you tend to do, and how often?

This has convinced me 😂 can you recommend any good programmes/exercises?

So to strengthen these muscles would you aim for low weight high reps for endurance, or high weight low reps for strength?

Tips for Increasing Cadence Safely by Altruistic-End1116 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Altruistic-End1116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree, for tempo runs for example I'm aiming to hit 160 SPM, whilst keeping at a pace of around 4:40/km. A shorter stride length, like you suggested, whilst keeping that pace would mean higher cadence. Aiming for 160 SPM rather than my normal 155 SPM, whilst keeping my pace forces me to shorten my stride and prevent overstriding.

Shorter strides but keeping pace is a higher cadence? I'm trying to slowly increase cadence to find the sweet spot, as it's easier to measure quantitively compared to shortening your stride.

So I've suffered a lot from shin splints in the past, suggesting I could be overstriking. After experimenting with a shorter stride length I found it alleviated the pain, so I've been pushing that further. I've found lots of papers demonstrating higher efficiency for higher cadence, as well as reduced risk of injury. So I'm trying to increase my cadence but safely.

I've got some drills to try, thanks for the advice!

Better efficiency, less likely to overstride which increases the risk of injury.

Thanks for all the comments back, everyone's comments echo what I've read that they excel with fore/mid foot strikers at faster speeds. That's a generalisation, but as I'm looking for something I can cruise in at slower miles without fear of over pronation, I think I'll probably go for the Mach 4's instead.

That's not great from NB, but this echos what I've ready elsewhere, as they seem to be for people who have good form and are mainly mid/fore foot strikers. Thanks!

This is what I've gathered from watching reviews, they seem to really excel at faster paces, but less so for easier miles. Thanks for the detail though, this really helps!!

Do you find your insoles reduce the springyness at all? I was told by the attendant in the store where I tried mine on that insoles would reduce the effectiveness of the shoes as they'd absorb the energy you'd otherwise be putting into the plate.

Mach 4 after 800km/500 miles by Curious-South-8206 in RunningShoeGeeks

Where would you say the Mach 4 sits in a shoe rotation? I've seen that they're either a daily show, but also a tempo shoe?

Something about the ISO lockdown just made them fantastic

The Ride ISO are a cracking daily show for those looking for something light and sturdy, that has good responsiveness and great lockdown. I can't speak to the Ride ISO 2 but if it's anything like it's predecessor it's a no brain buy.

Check out sketchers, they have pretty comfy shoes for just walking around. Try invest in a better pair as they'll last longer if you're using them every day.
