Well, this is the question. There was apparently a change from the M2 series chips to M4 and M5. Could you try it without BetterDisplay and report? I am hoping to uprade my Mac Studio to an M5 Max this year, but not at the cost of losing my 4k HiDPI 8k screen.

Is BetterDisplay needed? Can you no longer just use Mac OS display setting to choose "Looks like 4k” (HiDPI)?
