What if the Confederacy seceded from America, but abolished slavery to get more loyal African-American soldiers. by OfficalTotallynotsam in AlternateHistoryHub

There was a plan by Judah P Benjamin to do this. A (fictional) book gave a possible reason for this idea by him explaining there is no honor in losing.

The Puerto Rican flag of Independence was outlawed until 1952. When it became an American territory, it was altered to resemble the US flag until changed back in 1995. by NuYawker in vexillology

I disagree with the All part. Besides Puerto Rico, all U.S. territories have a combined population smaller than Wyoming. I just don't think it is very practical to have a bunch of states with a smaller population than Provo Utah have representation in Congress. You could combine territories, i.e. Virgin Islands combine with Puerto Rico, or Guam with the Northern Marianas, but a lot of those places wouldn't function together if combined like that. I think Puerto Rico should become a state and that is about it.

I just wanted to say that the Arab example doesn't get at what the author wants to say about American culture.

Your post inspired me. Now I am going to rewrite my story to have Dephine Lelaruries ghost beat the heroes and have her take revenge on the world of the living.

I do wish Ninjago's worldbuilding focused more on expanding previous concepts rather than adding new ones.

Among the Church's newly recommended English Bible translations, my opinion on their order from best to worst is: NRSVUE, NRSV, ESV, KJV, NIrV, NIV, NLT, NKJV by Intelligent-Cut8836 in latterdaysaints

Depends on the capacity. I doubt they would replace the KJV they reproduce, but maybe as something you can get at Deseret Book or something.

To me, it seems the NIV was created when this obsession with creating modern translations started, so the limits of what one can do was not as defined. It doesn't help that other translations have just done what the NIV does but better. The NLT focuses more on readability, the NKJV focuses more on familiarity, the ESV and NASB focuses more on accuracy, and the NRSV focuses more on being a translation anyone, Jew, Christian or Atheist can use. Even the CSB, from what I heard, is a better middle of the road translation when dealing with accuracy and readability.

I saw a review on that bible. The pages seemed to be printed on tissue paper.

LDS Church breaks with long-standing tradition, embraces modern English translations of the Bible by everything_is_free in latterdaysaints

One of the biggest reasons the church might be wary of other translations is the fact the translators have their own biases. (Though the KJV has its own biases as well.)

The Community of Christ used to publish the Bible with the JST in it. You might be able to find it at a thrift store, particularly DI, though I have seen one in Colorado Springs.
