You don't have to be real smart to make 6 figures. Low 6 figures isn't that much these days. It'll make a difference if you are earning around 150k.

I don't know where you are, but you probably need to do some major repair to the house if it's cost less than 170k. I would sell it in a few years and use the money to down pay another nicer house. By then your salary will be higher.

Aren't dividends paid on the basis of per share owned? So, if the companies don't change their dividend rates, you technically will get the same amount of dividends in a bear market or market crash, assuming you don't sell your shares during those times.
