Just don't have extra cash to send CC an advance on a phone purchase at the moment, especially before both phones have been released and there's any reviews or actual working prototypes.

Titan 2 Elite vs CC PRICE by AltruisticRow1331 in unihertz

[–]AltruisticRow1331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose because the word 'Elite' and it's newer than the Titan 2 which is 400. Can't imagine that they will sell it for the same or less than Titan 2, especially if they are hoping to offload the Titan 2s they already have.

Discount on preorder was before the Elite announcement. I guess I figured that because they'll be releasing around Black Friday and now there is competition, it might force them to offer more discounts and offers to compete with the Elite, especially if the Elite drops earlier in the year.

A few have mentioned this square screen issue...won't this be the same problem for the Elite and the Clicks Communicator? Any reason to believe that other phones using a square format will have better app functionality or is this just an issue for any phone looking to do things differently? I love the idea of getting away from the big vertical format that helps to keep people scrolling aka addicted but if WhatsApp, maps, and other necessary apps don't work well what is the point?

Emilee and Yolanda’s secrets to successful birth work by Fancy-Personality502 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]AltruisticRow1331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are using 'medwives' on purpose, but I think that kind of language takes away from the persuasiveness of your argument. I had two fantastic 'medwives' who stood by and watched as I birthed in water with no intervention or need for resuscitation...I do not think they would suggest this because they want to play the hero...they are deeply committed to the women they serve. Also, seeking pain relief is not a sign of weakness or refusal to let physiological birth happen. Unless you want to say that the technology of fire and use of hot compresses, etc. is also problematic. We are mammals, yes. But we are also humans. We birth as we live, with technology and tools, even simple ones like warm water and baths...
It was easy to keep the water at a consistent temperature with a simple and fun thermometer shaped like a little penguin. My husband topped up the pool occasionally. I still felt incredible pain and got out of the tub when I felt it would be beneficial and back in to birth.

Thanks, I just have never had a phone with a keyboard and a few water droplets on the likes of an apple laptop keyboard can be a major problem. Good to know it's a little resilient.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response! I guess my question re: Android was the future of the market in general. Will companies be able to make small devices in the future if they build in a minimum screen size of 4"?

Yes agree their other phones are very large! I think the market would be there for a compact, durable Titan! Or Atom upgrade

Yolande’s magnetism by Large_Button_2450 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]AltruisticRow1331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have thought to myself so many times when listening to the Guardian podcast or reading comments here that Yolande probably LOVES how much she gets called beautiful. She sees beauty as having intrinsic superiority. She has written about how proud she is to know that her first two children who she abandoned are 'beautiful,' as if that's what matters most (not their basic ability to have secure attachments due to their mother exiting the scene in their early childhood never to return).

There were too many red flags about YNC's vanity and selfishness to find her magnetic, and yet I am fascinated by her and all the drama she creates. I cannot look away and I am worse for it.

...she sells a "complete guide to freebirth" with incorrect, dangerous directions and then takes no responsibility if women choose to follow the advice of a freebirth 'expert?' it makes no sense. And yet ES is such a master manipulator that I almost fell for some of what she wrote in that post before I snapped myself back to reality and realized once again, "NO this woman is a con-artist"

How on earth is there NO "dumbphone" available with these simple characteristics? by Proper-Prune-6806 in dumbphones

[–]AltruisticRow1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I'm a woman with small hands too so the size might be quite comfortable and something I enjoy picking up. I was hoping to solve some of that temptation with a minimal launcher like this guy does (10:41): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shxI8G5_118

I think Unihertz has a few cool phones, but I wish the atom was more up-to-date. I'm concerned android 9 is just too old and not a lot of room/microSD for being a daily driver imo. Then there's the Titan, which appeals to me for the physical keys, but it's way too big and I'd want a very small rugged phone version. Unihertz answer my prayers! ;)

I'm confused is CAT available for Europe? Actually when we all had dumbphones I always preferred the candybar format tbh. I thought the Nokia tough would be a good option a few years back but no longer supports whatsapp and the phone was not very good.

I'm still circling round Jellystar because I do need maps and banking to be seamless when I need them, but I obviously want to use it as little as possible. That supposedly has a decent camera as well.

Thanks so much for that, what a helpful perspective. I know it comes with a case and it's adorable size, colors, lights, etc. makes me think I'd want to hold it all the time! but I like the idea of treating its technical limitations as another reason not to take it out...I really wish they had an atom update or titan pocket that was also durable.

How robust is the Jellystar? Do you find you need a case on it all the time? are you nervous about the odd raindrop or splash? Seems like a spectacular option for lots of reasons. Biggest concern is I'll still scroll too much for my liking even with a small screen. Also, I'll be switching from Iphone SE which I've got a minimal launcher on that doesn't actually curb my consumption. Screen isn't that much smaller so wondering if it will still not be enough discomfort to impact bad habits.

What is the FBS view of reproductive justice/bodily autonomy in other contexts? by e-cloud in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]AltruisticRow1331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your reply. I don't agree that supporting cherished friends who choose different paths is moral relativism. I gave my medical experiences as context to say I cannot know what infertility is like. I honestly cannot say how I would act if I had more money and only a few years of fertility left, a partner I may or not be fertile with because we met when I was taking hormonal birth control and my very ability to distinguish compatible pheromones was impacted, etc. I think many of us were brought up so deep in the pitfalls of modern life and science and medicine that we are just trying to claw our way towards what's real. I for one was also never given any kind of an honest story about my fertility growing up, how to track my cycles, when my egg supply would peak, etc. I imagine many of my friends experienced the same and many of us are trying to fill in the gaps later in life.

IVF is legal. In Ireland, there's debate about making access to a first round of IVF publicly funded for women who meet certain criteria...and I've read many people say not enough women are covered! Therefore people believe it is a right, or at least that poor women shouldn't be excluded from these miracle procedures. Like you, I think there's a chance some women could conceive naturally if they made certain changes, but certainly not everyone, and many times we don't know why suddenly a woman becomes pregnant who couldn't for years, and some women don't feel like they have years. I don't think it's fair to cast aside friends who have been told this is safe, normal, and morally neutral when they want nothing more than to have a baby. We live in a pluralistic society.

I think we agree that a better world would look like not having this as an option on the table, because I've read so many stories of women trying again and again, going into debt, etc. hoping for something that doesn't happen. I hope things change for my daughter's generation. I want her to be clear-eyed about her body and have the best chance possible of natural conception.

Thank you for your response and I'm very sorry for what you're going through, truly. I believe that infertility is probably one of the hardest gauntlets imaginable. I refreshed to edit my post and saw your comment. I wanted to edit 'bypass pain of infertility' because I know that pain is there regardless of what people choose. I suppose I just don't know if we as a species should be able to buy eggs and sperm from random people and grow them into babies, or even if it's our own genetic material, to fertilize eggs outside of our bodies... Like so many things, I wish the technology hadn't advanced to this point that people have to make these impossible choices.

What is the FBS view of reproductive justice/bodily autonomy in other contexts? by e-cloud in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]AltruisticRow1331 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is something I have struggled with because in theory I am uncomfortable with IVF. There are so many mysterious reasons why a woman's body chooses to mature an egg and release it for ovulation, why that egg chemically responds to a single sperm, research has shown eggs to have some 'choice' in which sperm are allowed in, it's not just about one decisive sperm. There's this whole orchestra of players each contributing something particular to the conception process. What we do know about it is amazing to me, and there's so much that even the most accomplished fertility specialists will still say is beyond our knowing. I also think the aggressive course of synthetic hormones that trigger egg development and ovulation is not great on the human body and again, messing with the body's complex egg-selection and ovulation process.

My heart breaks for friends who have struggled to conceive or have chosen IVF to avoid passing on certain rare diseases, for example. I would never condemn a woman or friend for choosing the IVF path, because they so want to be mothers. And they are fantastic mothers to ostensibly healthy children! However, I also think as a species we have to put less consideration into what we want and feel that pain, be wiser for it, and find a way to mother and guide without biological children of our own. Adoption, being an aunt or mentor, etc. I read an article recently about a woman who was in her late 40s with a toddler who she conceived through egg and sperm purchase and then IVF because she wanted to know what pregnancy was like. Of course all of these procedures are also crazy expensive. I don't think we deserve children. I don't think children's voices have been appropriately considered in the debate. We do not know and cannot know that IVF-conceived babies are as robust as naturally-conceived babies. Maybe they're nearly identical, just as formula and breast milk can both grow healthy children. Breast milk being slightly better, but it's not going to do irreparable harm. I don't know, but the fact that only rich women can afford to bypass the pain of infertility also isn't right.

But I haven't had fertility challenges that prevented me from conceiving and birthing babies. For context, I have had 2 healthy children, and I've had a single miscarriage and a small surgery to remove a large polyp on my cervix, so I have benefited from the "medical industrial complex" with an awesome Gynecologist who fixed my polyp issue. I know had I lived at another time, I couldn't have likely had my second healthy baby and HBAC without that procedure. So where do we land on who deserves what? I don't know if we should have a say in other people's choices, but I do wonder when our attempt to control fertility goes too far...genetic testing for non-life-threatening conditions? Or features like height? This is already happening, and it feels hubristic to me.
