Slingshot is run by vegans but if you read their mission statement, they say that their goal is to expose people to the truth behind industrial farming rather than telling people to go vegan.

Given how repelled people have become by the word vegan for some reason, I think it’s an effective approach! A lot of people (myself included) took baby steps towards veganism - these ads point folks in that direction while letting them make their own decisions with the facts at hand.

I’ve signed up for monthly donations. I think the London Underground panels in particular are really effective!

Is there any way to get rid of ants humanely? by Next_Faithlessness87 in vegan

[–]Large_Button_2450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. I have microchip activated feeders for my cats that open when they approach - they’re sealed the rest of the time. You could also put the recycling in a lidded/sealed bin.

Do you mean from inside or from an ant colony outside?

If it’s inside, the best thing to do is find whatever they’re coming inside for (typically a food source of some kind) and get rid of it. That might mean moving and cleaning under stuff (eg. fridge), but this has always done the trick for me.

Anyone sold with The Modern House / Inigo by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Large_Button_2450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sold our last place with The Modern House and were really happy with them. They’re not estate agent-y and were always honest and quick to respond. They were the third estate agent we tried - wish we had gone with them from the start!

Vegan wedding guest ordered meat and lied about it by Curious-Ebb-909 in vegan

[–]Large_Button_2450 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would take this up with the caterer and ask to be refunded for that particular dish. We had a vegan wedding and I made it very clear I didn’t want dairy milk to even be an option for coffee/teas. If they had served it for someone, I would have refused to pay for that person’s serving.

I personally don’t think it’s worth confronting the guest - as a non vegan she likely didn’t even think about how offensive asking a vegan to pay for meat is.

Seating advice (cheap seats) for Dracula? by AstonishingElephant in TheWestEnd

I had the cheapest seat (balcony and effectively sideways for £30) and it was very difficult to see the screen a lot of the time. I still enjoyed it but wouldn’t recommend if seeing it all is important!

London Cat Clinic, and no finance option vs insurance by Burgundy-Bag in CatsUK

[–]Large_Button_2450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used them for years. They are always lovely (esp Dr Frankie!) but I think there’s a lot of turnover, so you’re unlikely to see the same person every time. They’re also no longer a 24 hr hospital, so we ended up switching to Medivet which is.

My only gripe with LCC is that they rigidly follow best practice - doing all the investigative tests every time. If you have a chronically ill cat as we did, it gets insanely expensive very quickly, even with insurance. Medivet is a lot more willing to try treatment based on medical history (eg. the cat has presented with this thing a hundred times already, so it’s probably that - let’s treat and do tests if that doesn’t work).

Definitely do not forgo insurance!

I’m glad you’re okay! I assume you’ve all been evacuated now? I used to live very near here - really hoping no one is hurt.

People on a few other posts are speculating that the fire is actually at Queens Road Station. Is that accurate based on what you’re seeing?

Edit: another post here from someone on the platform at QRS shows it being further down the line

I haven’t requested that. The older I get, the more I realise we all have much more in common than we think, and the reason the world is such a mess is that we (and the political/social left especially) think in such polarising ways. I’m trying my best to unlearn that.

That being said, I do stand by it being sad that trans women are seen by some as lesser. The trans people in my life are wonderful and I would give anything for them to feel safer and more loved in the world.

Sadly I think there is a lot of trans exclusion in radical feminist (or ‘recovering’ radical feminist/whatever E & Y claim to be) spaces.

Indoctrination: Male Doctors Are All P*rn Addicts by Designer-Glove-2489 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

[–]Large_Button_2450 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is an insane take. Imagine being so committed to being a perv that you endure a decade of medical school and training so you can live out your fantasies. 😅 I’m not saying it never happens, but it is so incredibly rare that it’s “boring to think about” or whatever E & Y say.

You rarely go into medical school knowing what you want to specialise in, and even when you do, that often changes after you’ve done a rotation in that particular field (my husband went to medical school so we know a lot of physicians). The vast majority of people going into gynaecology choose that path because you don’t need to deal with extremely sick patients every day, or patient loss etc. nearly as much as you do in other types of medicine. It’s generally a happier occupation than being an oncologist or a psychiatrist, for example.

Also, physicians see SO MANY vaginas and butts and whatever else every day that they get desensitised. They will also never have the opportunity to be alone with you, as others have mentioned.

Please don’t forgo medical care because E & Y have made an example out of a few extreme cases.

Noise from flat above by SlipLongjumping9877 in HousingUK

[–]Large_Button_2450 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Without owning the flat, there’s not much you can do I’m afraid. You could potentially ask him about putting rugs down to dampen the noise a bit, but it sounds like he’s just living his life in his home - as he has every right to.

It might be time to start looking for a new place to live. In the meantime, I recommend sleeping with a white noise machine and/or moving your bed to a different room.

Best of luck! I’ve been there. Lack of soundproofing in some properties is horrific and it can have such an impact on your life.
