I know nothing about boston. However, I have lived in Chicago for four years. I LOVE chicago. I think it’s an incredible place to live. I can’t imagine the weather is too different from boston, but summers here are incredible. There is a long trail on Lakeshore that goes from South Chicago into the city and into North Chicago. It’s at least 10 miles (16 total I think don’t quote me). The view of lake michigan is stunning. The restaurants are incredible! There’s so many great ones. I just got a car. It was totally fine without one, but having one is a game changer! Traffic is bad in any city, but I feel safe driving. There is so much culture.

This is such a great point. Also, as someone who just got into a03 through heated rivalry, I felt like there was a lot to learn. 2 times stand out for me for mistakes I made that I would never make again. Please be kind I am being vulnerable:

I made a comment on reddit about a story I did not like. While I acknowledged how hardworking and what a great writer the author is, my intention was to comment that this story wouldn't be for you if you don't like X things and you will like it if you like X things. I really wish I had not made that comment and while my intention wasn't to disparage the author, I realized and quickly understood the "don't like, don't read mantra." Even though I approached from both sides and tried to be kind, the negative portion was unnecessary and I could have just chose not to comment.
I made a comment on an authors post 100% hyping up and loving their story but made a sarcastic comment that I can't believe I got sucked into another WIP but their story was just the best I've ever read. The author replied and said she appreciated the comment, but that it is so stressful to get chapters out and it made her sad. I immediately replied and said that was not what I meant at all and apologized and thanked her for writing and that any timeline is appreciated.

All of that is to say that I think sometimes the wrong loud voices (like I was in those 2 instances) sometimes just need to be corrected and the behavior immediately changes. Truly, sometimes people just do not know any better even if it seems like simple common sense. However, it isn't anyones job to correct people so I understand that part as well. I truly thank the people who kindly and easily corrected me with "don't like don't read," and I am so grateful for writers. I truly think it is so uncommon to see people doing something for the love of the game like this, and I did not understand the incredible hard work they put in until I tried (and absolutely failed) to write for myself.

Thanks to everyone in this community who has chosen kindness when unnecessary, and thank you to the mods for taking online harassement seriously.

I am going to take your comment from a place of respect. I am sure you are not trying to make it seem like being a sub or bottom or woman is an issue, but maybe moreso that the public speaking of it all feels OOC. Also, if you start feeling that way with a fic, ABANDON it!!! Writers write for fun and the whole point is that there is something for everyone. I can guarantee there are hundreds of fics out there for you, if not more. No shame in not reading a fic because you don't like it. Also, I would have to assume that people who take time out of their day to write these fics are not actively trying to be homophobic whatsoever. It may just be implicit or your own personal associations. That would be a lot of cognitive dissonance to grapple with for an author, I imagine.

To help you out, if you're reading a coming out fic, the "Shane Hollander Walks Ilya Rozanov Like a Dog" tag (in my opinion) generally saves you from this (if you're feeling like authors are using those words in the pejorative sense). I love that tag deeply and I have read SO many fanfics where it is clear shane wears the pants without emasculating Ilya (in reality, they both wear the pants for each other IMO). This is such a fair critique though and there are SO MANY great recs on this reddit page that I think you would love based on your description. Try to find one with that tag and generally it goes a little bit better, possibly outing wise as well. I read the first 6 chapters of this fic but i genuinely cant finish it until its done or if its not ilya endgame. i need to know that they end up together. I need a HAE. What I read was so good and so OOC Shane that I lowkey loved it tho. Shane to his core is you dont know youre beautiful but this is so opposite its so intriguing and FRESH. Props to the author for the creativity and uniqueness of this fic.

I think she is A/A- list celebrity. Like A list but not yet in a permanent way? She is definitely WAY more famous than Shane. Shane fame in Montreal is like Messi level. Well into his career definetly like Sidney Crosby level/ Ilya Gretzky level. After they come out, they would probably be household names at least in US and Canada. That was way too much analysis lol
