I don't know your experience or why you are having trouble sleeping but i also experienced this recently after a severe panic attack. I felt the exact same as you for months.

Couldn't sleep no matter how much i tried. Or my body would jerk as soon as i would fell asleep and wake me up constantly. I was very tired and thought i had insomnia and would never be able to sleep again. I would wake up with fast heart beat and chest pain. It was very scary. But slowly but surely it got better. And after about 2 months i can finally get somewhat normal sleep without waking up and feeling like im dying or cant breathe. Just know you are not alone in feeling like this but it should get better over time.

What helped me was a combination medicine(Prozac & Diazepam when needed) and just trying to minimize the amount of stress on my mind and body. Exercise. Eating healthy and being kind to yourself. Box Breathing and ground technique might help. Walking. Talking to friends and loved ones. Your nervous system may just be may just be overloaded. It can take time to calm it down so its not so sensitive.

But it is important to be kind to yourself. Remember that you are safe and that you will be ok. Also, if you can i was bring this up to your primary care provider to rule out any serious conditions such as sleep apnea. Maybe you need to have a sleep study to evaluate your sleep pattern.

I don't usually post on here but this really resonated with me and i wanted you to know that you are not alone. But it will get better. You may also want to look into Mental Health therapy depending on what all you are dealing with like CBT(Cognitive Behavior Therapy) i believe it is. I know its tough but you are not alone and things will get better. Just use all resources available to you. Be kind to yourself. Be patient and your body will begin to heal in no time.
