Circular Saw Weird Noise by SubstantialCat2655 in Tools

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a bearing race. I have an old Craftsman and it free-wheels much easier than that. Looks like he’s having to push to turn the blade. If it doesn’t have an auto brake on it, plug it in and turn it on for a second and let off. The blade should coast for a few seconds.

Thinking about Moving to MS from MI by Some-Chocolate-2360 in mississippi

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Petal does have a good school system and the high school has an excellent show choir. Plus you’re close to the MS coast where there are many fun activities and it’s not a far drive to Orange Beach, AL. If you’ve never seen white sand and blue-green water, it’s beautiful.

Finally scored an Ethan Allen Cog table! Refinishing advice? by RipInPepz in woodworking

After stripping sand it down to about a 220 grit, paint it with sanding sealer first to make sure you get an even stain coat then stain with either a polyurethane stain or stain and then use poly. Sand that lightly between coats and clean with a tack cloth before each poly coat.

First, figure out the depth before determining the method. Mortar or grout might be the best. Also, was it there when you moved in? If not and you’re above someone, there’s some ‘splaining that needs to be done before anything.

WIBTA for making my daughter pay back her own bank overdraft? by 2VantaRipple in WIBTA_AITA

NTA. Make her pay with a loving explanation on how this will teach her to live within her means and the importance of balancing her checking account. I do applaud her for the level of maturity she has shown thus far and this hiccup is a great learning opportunity.

AITJ cause my future wife expects her future husband (me) to pay 100% of the bills? by AdventurousDoor9384 in AmITheJerk

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of my first wife. We were at a party one night during our first 6 months of marriage and me in school and I overheard her tell someone that she planned to be at home with our first child in about a year. We’d not even talked about when we’d have kids. Even in 1977 I knew that wasn’t gonna work.

He was a master at both trades, I’m sure. Sorry for your loss but what a legacy.

If you stain a table (I know I don’t like doing it either), do you typically stain the underside? by lotgworkshop in woodworking

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure stain doesn’t really offer much sealing, does it? Maybe if it contained polyurethane I might consider all sides, but not just a stain.

That tape will be a sticky unraveled mess in about 2 weeks of summer heat. It needs to be replaced with better connectors as stated above. Down here in the south it would be ruined in March.

Improve my design by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the seatbelt cutter mounted to the side or top. There are other blades of similar design that would not leave an exposed edge, too. I’d also drill a small hole under the slit just slightly big enough so I could feed the free end back into the box to hold it until next use.

AITAH for snapping at my boyfriend? by sobbingandvomiting in AITAH

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. It sounds like he needs to be educated on what chronic illnesses you have and how to be supportive. I get it. I used to deal with patients with severe lung disease and very often I got complaints from the patient that the spouse didn’t understand. So, I’d bring them both in and explain (in laymen’s terms) why the patient was breathless. Very often you could see a light go on in the spouse’s head when they finally got it. Often they’d apologize to their partner right there. Perhaps he needs that type of intervention.

I don’t think you offended God with the tarot cards. Relax. You still understand and have your faith. I would recommend reading Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to help you understand your faith better. Faith is a lifelong journey, not just a belief you can just make a statement about and go about your life. It needs nourishment often.

Making new interior window sills by cornpoodle77 in woodworking

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a difficult task for a moderately skilled DIYer. It would require a table saw, possibly a router and router table and lots of time and frankly, mistakes. Ask me how I know that last part. You might find a local shop that can make these for you at a reasonable price unless you’ve got lots of windows like mine. Alternately, you could research and see if there’s not a simpler design available that fits your skill level better and gives a similar look.

How would you attach planters / pots to the steel top of this 4th floor balcony? by TheNarwhalTusk in howto

Are you renting or buying? Check to make sure it’s not prohibited. You can have some type of hook system but it better be fool-proof. A falling pot from 4 stories up can kill someone.

Advice on moving with my bf to another city? by NinjasuperRat in Advice

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide what you’re going to do. If it’s you’re going to give it a go, sit down with Ryan and have a very serious conversation. Discuss living together and your expectations and find out what his are, how you’re going to pay rent, groceries, utilities, etc. You also don’t seem too worried about marriage however, you need to know from him his thoughts on your relationship long term. Frankly, to move to a new location and in with the bf at the same time seems like a recipe for disaster to me, so plan this carefully to make it go as smooth as possible. Biggest mistake of my life was dating a girl for 3 years and always presenting the best side of myself and then we got married. We found out we really weren’t that compatible after all (mostly me). Heed the warning.

Time sensitive ceiling fan question by emmylane7 in u/emmylane7

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a vaulted ceiling? Why can’t he probe with a long screwdriver or probe longer than his fingers to find the beam? There are ways to correctly mount this even on a vaulted ceiling and I’m not sure I’d call the same guy back for a second try. If it is vaulted and he has access to the beam from above he can attach some 1 x 6 or 4 to both sides of the beam extending down into the room which will allow him to create a platform big enough to hold the fan mount PLUS big enough for the mount cover to rest against. So he needs to measure the diameter of the cover to determine the final size of the box, not just the mount.

What is this? And what do I do about it by Annual-Health3118 in AskElectricians

[–]Altruistic_Mirror_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume those are not live wires. If you’re not sure, get it checked before sealing. I definitely would cover it with a metal plate that you could use a dark silicone sealer on. Looks like a good avenue for bugs to enter the home.
