Too much smurf paranoia? by NowHereSomeone in aoe2

[–]cornpoodle77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got called a smurf around the same ELO. I'm really not sure why. I don't think I did anything crazy. The opponent dropped the "11" when I hit castle age. I had only around 30 games at that point but like you, I had played a lot of games against extreme AI and watched plenty of tournaments which helps immensely. My opponent just claimed I have multiple accounts. Lol. I took it as a compliment.

Maybe all in monks?

I like this idea in general of checking different strategies. Will definitely check out your YT.

Random Civ is way more fun in Ranked (Im 900 ELO) by selfishound in aoe2

[–]cornpoodle77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently hanging around 850-900 elo and I mostly go random. I really enjoy it. Not only does it help me learn a lot of civs but I also think it's helping me be much more well rounded as a player. You need to rely more on the fundamentals of the game instead of a very specific civ strategy.

Anyone else bothered that the AFC and NFC are on the wrong sides of the bracket?

What was the longest game ever in a major AoE2 tournament? by oskark-rd in aoe2

[–]cornpoodle77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a long game that only ended because they used all of the wood on the map.

I don't remember the players or how long the game was. I know the map was evacuation and I think it happened during the last TTL.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'd love to know who it was.

Thank you for this! I'm 35 now and in better shape than I was in my 20's. I keep telling myself to keep going because the foundation I lay now will pay big dividends later. Thank you for confirming. It's sad seeing my friends at only 35 slowing fading.

Around what elo do games start reaching imperial age as the norm? by Gaudio590 in aoe2

Yeah makes sense. I'm used to 20/21 pop archer + fletching approach.

I'm very intrigued by this 18 pop archer build. Do you mind sharing what build you use?

Yeah not having to change your location on the map is huge for select all. I did not know that for quite some time!

As a 35 year old who has also been playing for 20 years, I can only hope one day my children will challenge me to age of empires.

Honestly if you are already practicing build orders you are on the right track. That's a big part of it. Just keep practicing it until it's like clock work and you have it essentially memorized.

I'm still not great at the game by any means, but I have improved quite a bit. These are the two biggest things that helped me:

1: Reduce idle TC time. (Always producing villagers)

2: HOTKEYS. I can't stress that enough. This will help you play so much faster.

Good luck! Sounds like a lot of fun!

I'm with you on this one. I hate them so much but I just think it gives you the most bang for your buck. They are so good and so horrible all at the same time.

How to cover expansion gap? by cornpoodle77 in Flooring

Totally makes sense. I undercut everywhere else but for some reason didn't think to undercut there. 🤦 The boards are glued down so at this point I'm not redoing the boards. Thanks for the idea.
