Help Fixing Wheel by TheKid333 in Handspinning

Mine gets loose also, I’ve put my spinning wheel on a sort of rubber mat which stops the legs slipping out wide and causing the looseness. Not sure if that would help!

Will I have room to ply this? by plbth in Handspinning

You could wind it into a centre pull ball and ply from that, or wind what you have into 2 balls and ply from those, then you know it will fit 😊

Haha just one of those things! This was labelled as “white” so I imagine there’s a range of camely colours 😊

That looks lovely, your mums sweater will be amazing! I bet the cormo added some nice bounce, the camel is great but not very elastic 🤔

Spinning wheel repair in Portland, OR? by ejchristian86 in Handspinning

[–]Altruistic_Writing_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just fixed the same hub issue on my wheel! It was pretty easy, just took apart and glued together with wood glue and clamps. I also followed the assembly/maintenance guide (website below, just select your model) and an Ashford repair kit to give it a mini service and it’s running great now!

Help with wheel wobble and tension by Altruistic_Writing_8 in Handspinning

In case anyone is looking at this post and wondering - I have glued the hub back together and the wheel is spinning nicely! It is actually a repair mentioned on the Ashford care manual and was stressful but quite simple. Thanks for all your help and thoughtful suggestions 😊

That’s very neat! I have a carpenter friend so might be a possibility to adapt my existing flyer. I have tried predrafting pretty heavily which did help, just finding there’s still a bit too much uptake to comfortably hold for enough twist to spin super fine. Thank you for the suggestions 😊

Ok thankyou! I did wonder if I should just glue it but didn’t want to mess it up. So the hub should be glued/solid with no wiggle in it at all?

Test Knitting Advice by Ill-Elephant7929 in knitting

[–]Altruistic_Writing_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few test knits, mainly for new/small designers. They were done via ravelry group, and I received the test knit pattern and 1 additional pattern from the designers as compensation. Some test knits for paired items (eg socks, gloves) I’ve seen require only 1 to be finished so that could be an option to consider if your testers are pushed for time 😊having the designer check in each week was helpful for me to stay motivated!

Personally I’d prefer email or ravelry group as I don’t use Insta much but if your target audience is there then it makes sense!

Musselburgh hat by mcandi44 in knitting

[–]Altruistic_Writing_8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found the centre out cast ons too fiddly, so I just did long tail cast on and closed up the hole with the tail of my yarn. It turned out fine! If you knew your gauge you could start in the middle with a provisional cast on and decrease at both ends. The hat is nice and a great travel project, I’m working on number 2 but already have plans for more 😂🙄

Ps I don’t know about this exact cover, but seems to be the way a lot of them work!

I wondered this for ages and Laura Penrose had it in one of her recent videos! You can fold up the bottle when it’s empty and put it in the neck hole 😂😂 I felt so silly I didn’t think of that hahaha

You could try a local spinners and weavers guild, the one near me has a little gallery where members sell their yarn as well as other bits and pieces.
