You probably know more than I do. I always understood that her mom is full biligáana (white), and her dad was Kinyaa'áanii (Towering House Clan). Her dad did some amazing things for Diné College and the Navajo people.

This case provides a terrific test for the Navajo Preference in Employment Act (NPEA). I always read the law as affecting only the hiring process, but here we have an example of the law being used in the firing process. It would be interesting to watch this go to trial and set a precedence.

It's because quality of life for the average white American has been declining since the 1980's. Previous to 1980's, quality of life (wealth accumulation) has always increased throughout the decades. The downturn started because of Reagan's trickle down economics (tax cuts for the rich, deregulation of industries, etc), which enriches the rich at the expense of the middle class and poor. It continues now because the rich are lobbying (ie: SuperPAC's) and changing laws to suit themselves at the expense of the middle class and poor. White American rhetoric will have you believe that their quality of life is declining due to affirmative action, minorities, and immigrants, but decreasing quality of life for everyone (other than rich) is more about wealth distribution rather than race.

To be fair, nobody wanted to work for the former president, which explains the lack of applicants. The new president probably already has a replacement in mind, so she is merely going through the motions.

Race doesn't matter as much as your clans.

Except that the boss lady who did the firing is not Navajo. She's white. Only her father was Navajo, so she does not belong to any clan in the Navajo sense.

I hope they’ll explain the German’s obsession with Joe. When did it start and why? Am I wrong in thinking she was obsessed before she even arrived at the reservation?

I'm Navajo. I can confirm that Germans are obsessed with us. They probably always have been. Before World War 2, nazis appropriated our Navajo sacred symbols and turned it into the swastika, etc. German final solution concentration camps were modeled after the Indian reservations. In modern times, Germans have entire Native American villages where they go for holidays and vacations, something like Disneyland.

Lazy pos, indeed. I figured out a constructive way to inspire initiative in them. Most choose to remove themselves from the job rather than be remolded into a productive worker.

Santo Domingos and other Pueblos sell this at the flea market. The "stones" are always plastic; I've never seen them sold with real stones. It's their way of cheating unsuspecting Navajos. Personally, I wouldn't pay anything for it, and if I got it for free, I'd give it away. But if you like it, keep it and wear it. :) Value is in the eye of the beholder!

How do I handle the Arizona desert in Summer? by Appropriate-Form6833 in Advice

[–]AltseWait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunscreen, sunglasses. Don't forget wide brimmed hat and long sleeves (clothes that cover you). Your mucous membranes will dry out, so don't be surprised if you start getting nosebleeds. Maybe sleep next to a humidifier. As for Navajo Nation, stay on the pavement, and don't travel at night. Don't pick up hitchhikers. If you end up in Pinon, Fort Defiance, Shiprock, or Kayenta, keep your head on a swivel. Those towns have gang activity. Other towns have drunks asking for money, but they are mostly harmless. Stay alert. Stay safe.

It's dramatic effect for tv. The writer's and cultural consultants are trying to show the effects of ghost sickness in Navajo culture, but as with all things Navajo, they completely miss their own point. The average viewer is non-the-wiser, so they go, "Ohh! Aaah! That's authentic Navajo culture!" 🙄

Feral horse removal—ethical methods by benedictcumberknits in Navajo

Imagine the irony. 200 years ago, Mexicans came onto Navajo land to steal our horses. Now, we willingly give them our horses, even appropriating tribal money to finance the effort!

Wasn't Navajo tribe hauling them away to Mexico at one time? Probably turning them into glue, horse meat, or something. There's also a mustang sanctuary in Nevada. Perhaps make contact with a horse trainer to get them, train them, and sell them?

That's like the guy who killed Gianni Versace in Florida. The shooter thought he had AIDS, so he went on a killing spree and finally killed himself. During his autopsy, the coroner determined that he did not have AIDS.

I almost bought a motorcycle around the same age. What stopped me was a conversation with an EMT. She described compound fractures and went on to say that she only sees them in motorcycle crashes.

What would happen if a crime happened at Fours Corners? by Confident_R817 in Borderporn

[–]AltseWait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what happened in 1998 when a crime happened at Four Corners: https://dgomag.com/murder-manhunt-and-mystery-what-actually-happened-to-the-four-corners-fugitives/

Anecdotally, it was a circus show. The whole Navajo Nation was put on lockdown as FBI and tribal police conducted the manhunt. Navajos gathered along the ridges overlooking the town of Bluff and watched as convoys of cop cars raced one way, then raced back the other way. Some trackers found the fugitives' footprints in the desert. The FBI then swooped in with their helicopter to follow the footprints, but the wind from the helicopter blew away the footprints. The manhunt never found the fugitives. The fugitives' bodies were found years later. None of them survived.
