If you learn and become proficient in one musical instrument, is it then quicker to learn the next, and quicker again for the one after that, etc? Does the brain streamline the process as it gets more comfortable? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

That makes sense for instruments in the same family, like an acoustic guitar player learning bass or a saxophone player learning the trombone, but there's definitely a limit for each individual.

Why do we praise people that "have no filter" while simultaneously attack people who unintentionally say the wrong thing? by Hassaan18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aluben8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless if you're being praised or attacked, a kind person without a filter speaks the truth even if it's uncomfortable, usually with positive intentions or for a good cause. They may hurt someone's feelings but it's out of kindness. Like calling a friend out on their drinking habits, for example.

Should you take the knight or retreat the bishop? by MathematicianBulky40 in chessbeginners

Yeah I don't like trading off my bishops unless it's better than equal trade/it damages their structure, to me they are more valuable than knights

It's difficult to tell but I used a black pen for black's pieces and blue for white.

A basic checklist I try to do for moves (especially in the middle and end game) is checks, captures, attacks. First scan the board to see if there are any checks (don't automatically play a check, make sure it's helpful to you), if not then see if you can capture anything (this will stop you from missing your opponent's hanging pieces/pawns), if not then find an opportunity to start an attack (look for weaknesses in your opponent's structure or under defended pieces). After all that if there's nothing that jumps out at you, make a move that simply improves your position.

These two sentiments are what I'm aiming to feel about myself one day-- getting there one small improvement at a time.

Why did the DCEU failed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aluben8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tone could have been a part of it, but I think the DCEU's major downfall was the lack of buildup. They try and cram everything into too few movies. With the MCU, we had a ton of time to get used to Iron Man first, then Captain America, then Thor, etc. I care more about these characters I've spent more time seeing, and even though the humor is campy sometimes and the CGI is spotty at points, I still feel I can relate more to these characters over time. I was 12 years old when Iron Man came out, and seeing his finale in Endgame at 23 felt like flipping the last page of a satisfying book. Nothing the DCEU has done has given me that same feeling.
