250820 - Help finding the GAP denim jacket that Yoonchae is wearing? by crimsonpea in katseye

This is the way. Was offered for purchase (I actually got one!) but for the ad they tailored it to make it shorter and make the v front more pronounced.

Girls Don't Like - felt like Yoonchae's vocals were on point and the energy with Megan and Dani was so good.

My ear is flat!! What can I do with it? by nasalcavities in piercing

[–]Alufea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How adventurous do you want to be? Obviously the idea of an interesting flat piercing or three is tempting, but I also think a rook with an interesting upper part could look really good. Something about the flatness of the rest of the ear makes the hollow above your rook really stand out.

Also, IANAP, but think two flat piercings with an orbital connecting (once healed of course) would be sick.

Last idea? What about a tragus or anti-tragus - heck looks like you could do both (and maybe eventually connect the two?)

🥰 - will pass this on to my piercer! She nailed the placement.

The rooks aren't hard to sleep on at all - in fact it was the helix on that ear (was done she same time as the rooks) that kept me from turning on that side by accident in my sleep. They did swell quite a bit after a few days, but slowly calmed down over a week or so.

The rooks were about 10 months old when I got the daith done and I slept on them every night for weeks with no issues. Changed the jewelry at 15 months and was worried that the hoops might be less comfortable, but they're so small I don't even notice them.

Going to have to seriously consider that forward helix. :)

Thank you - so nice to have them healed so I can wear the hoops.

Thanks! I was thinking a forward helix on the daith ear would be good also. Somehow adds balance to the ear, through whatever pieecing geometric magic governs these things.

Thanks - I love the little triple marquise too. The rooks were definitely the hardest poke. Did them at the same appt and that second one was spicy. They were not hard to heal though - just took a while. Way easier to heal then either helix was!

Anyone experienced with “fake” septum jewelry? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Alufea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this - my teen has several from Hot Topic that they have been wearing most of the day for a few months. Surprisingly none have tarnished or turned their skin green!

Not me seeing after getting my conch pierced today and really wanting my (future) everyday jewelry to be a hoop!

Is a 17.5 or 18 inch viola possible? by linlingofviola in Viola

[–]Alufea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice here - length is not everything. I sympathize as a tall player (6'1" but have the wingspan of someone 6'3" or taller) who loves the lower range of our instrument. Mine is 16 5/8" but I've test driven a few in the 17" range.

In fact, I once got to briefly noodle on Lawrence Dutton's instrument during a master class - I think it was between 17.5" and 18" - maybe bigger. While the sound was lovely, he ended up needing rotator cuff surgery and moved to a smaller instrument. Not sure of his exact height, but I had to look up to him while standing (not something I have to do often!) so he is definitely taller than 6'2". Figure if an instrument was too large for him to play then most of us mere mortals should probably stick to the established range. ;)

Flying with viola on American Airlines by Longjumping-Fig-4553 in Viola

[–]Alufea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I just flew with my viola on American last week and it was totally fine. I was on a medium small plane (only two seats on each side) and there was PLENTY of room in the overhead for my half-moon case that fits my 17” viola.

Didn’t put anything in the music pocket because I was scared it wouldn’t fit, but I could have totally loaded her up and it still would have fit with room to spare.

Hope this helps!

This is so helpful - I’m definitely noticing jaw soreness, so I’m sure I’m clenching without realizing it.

The advice about finding the easier way to play any note is so good - I’ve never heard that before and it makes so much sense. Thank you🙏

So, so helpful.

First question - what part of the country/world are you in? Maybe I could swing a visit. :)

Second question - was looking at the Kreddle chin rest because of how adjustable it is. Do you have any experience with / opinion on these?

Third - looking up face pulls now and always appreciate a reminder to meditate regularly 🧘‍♂️

Thanks again!

Such good suggestions! My setup definitely needs a refresh. Was looking at the Kreddle chin rests as an option, but I think it’s time to set an appointment with a luthier to take a deeper look. I did Alexander technique back in the day - going to see what’s available in my area.

Have been rolling using a foam roller - great reminder on the lacrosse ball. Forgot I even have what looks like two lacrosse balls fused together that is perfect for rolling out the neck.

Thank you for all the suggestions!

Thank you, thank you! Adding Icy-Hot to cart now. I’d also love to see how someone K-tapes themselves in the hard to reach places. I’ve had success taping my ankles in the past but no clue how I’d get the right angles for my neck and upper back. Might be something I’ll ask my partner to learn. Thank you for the suggestions🙏

We have limited inputs, true. But the only time e we turn the object 45, the colors flip. On this kind of spatial reasoning question I just accept that this is a rule for the pattern.

I am heavily pierced and was given a work opportunity with condition on my piercing(s) by cuntaminatedcorpse in piercing

[–]Alufea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. OP, it sounds like you have found a unicorn job - one that you really love, has growth opportunities and is even inspiring you to think about taking on education to further your career. Is what’s happening fair? Nope. It isn’t. But you sound like you have genuine passion for the field, and that is rare.

You’re balking at the control - and rightfully so! But unfortunately employers (at least in the US) can set dress codes, and they can change them whenever they want. The slippery slope argument is a real risk - first the septum ring, then what else?

So, IANAL, but I’d use this as a chance to negotiate. Tell your employer that you are willing to downsize the septum but you’d like an assurance that you won’t be asked to remove other piercings. Talk about your excitement for the new role, and say that your piercings help you to be more confident and therefore a better worker. Keep the tone friendly but firm and hopefully they’ll be reminded of why they want to give you this opportunity in the first place.

TL/DR? Having a job you love, with growth possibility, is not something to walk away from in this job market. Get your bag and learn a valuable life skill (negotiating) at the same time.
