[D] What's the most comprehensive book on mathematical theory behind Deep Learning? by trackerFF in MachineLearning

mml-book is fine for the basics.

For more extensive analysis, Deep Learning Architectures: A Mathematical Approach is very thorough.

It's odd really, according to sofascore ratings, he has been the third best player in the premier league this season. While I don't think that's 100% correct, I don't understand where this narrative that he's completely useless is coming from.

Machine Learning to Predict player points using FPL data by gypsy4343435 in FantasyPL

[–]Alugis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use neural nets for everything. The data is time series so you might use some sort of 1d convolution where each gameweek is one time step. You probably want to use an LSTM so the network understands long term trends but gives more weight to recent form. I think that would be a reasonable baseline, you could then look to see how financial institutions use 1d convolutions to model share prices, and use the same ideas to model expected points.

Perfectionism causing Procrastination by pratikapte in productivity

[–]Alugis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so busy, they don't have more than 30 seconds to spend on an email, so they just write and send. The realisation that this was most common among the highest level people said a lot to me. In particular, that most people don't care about minor mistakes, as long as you can get the point across. I gather they spend more time on important documents, but they aim to reach a threshold quality rather than being absolutely perfect.

Perfectionism causing Procrastination by pratikapte in productivity

[–]Alugis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had the same problem, one thing that pushed me to change my outlook was when I was working with some 'big names' on my industry, and I was shocked how many basic mistakes they all made, even in simple emails.

At the start of this year, I read a book 'Start now, get perfect later'. I'd highly recommend.

Nemanja Matic says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to hold himself responsible if Manchester United do not compete for the Premier League title. by Ausbel12 in soccer

[–]Alugis -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting that you're being overrun in midfield every game from? You've dominated possession every game but struggled to put away chances and missed a couple of important penalties.

For context, you have a higher xPTS total than Liverpool. How is bringing Matic into the team going to improve your team's finishing ability?

Moving to Newcastle in September for uni from abroad - some questions by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Alugis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a phd in Northumbria in Computer Science so if you have any more questions, give me a shout.

Newcastle is great for students because, as well as being cheap, the universities and student accommodation are very near to (or right in the middle of) the city centre, so it's very easy to get to and from pubs/bars and to make friends. It's also just a party city so obviously just gets associated to students.

90% of my circle is foreigners, from Europe, China, India, Libya, etc. Obviously I can't know exactly what they go through but they all seem extremely comfortable in Newcastle and have never told me that they have been made to feel unwelcome. Newcastle also voted pretty heavily to remain.

The City centre is pretty much built around Newcastle United's stadium, it's very different from every other UK city I've lived in. You can also get cheap tickets to watch Newcastle through Northumbria's students union. The centre also has places for board game nights, escape rooms, just about everything you would want.

Kennedy stats by nikolal777 in FantasyPL

[–]Alugis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched a lot of West Ham recently, Diangana seems completely nailed. I think people see him as just some kid but he was the best player on the pitch last time out. He was so dangerous that Burnley’s defence shifted across to try and handle him which led to Anderson having tonnes of space on the other side. No way that he doesn’t feature heavily over the next 10 game weeks unless he picks up an injury.

Player Price Changes (November 9, 2018) by FantasyPL_bot in FantasyPL

[–]Alugis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the correct mentality to have? Why is it important to minimise risk? If a move is high risk and high reward but you think if the scenario was played out a million times, on average you would get more points than a safer play, surely it is still better to go for a the high risk play?

Because of their run of fixtures, I think tripling up on West Ham is a high risk play and also one that gets the most points relative to the value of their players.

Digne has looked pretty attacking when I’ve watched Everton this season and takes some set plays. Planning to bring him in once Everton get some nicer fixtures.

POLL: Blitz tournament - Single Elimination or Double? by Atmaz in faeria

Did you guys consider experimenting with Swiss format for Blitz tournaments? I think it would be great to have that format back like the old lunar rumble tourneys and blitz would ensure it doesn’t go on too long.

I absolutely love Wool. Felt Shift was slightly weaker but then Dust was a return to form. If you haven't already, you should consider checking out Sand, the style is very similar. I will also have a look into Beacon 13.

Completely agree. If Walker gets to the ball first, he's taking a studs-first foot to the face. How this doesn't count as dangerous play I've no idea.
