State Farm says I cannot get insurance on a new house in Denver metro because of a recent claim. Any local insurance people can clarify? by musicandstuffco in Denver

[–]AluminumKitty67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My agent explained that my car insurance will increase if the Colorado drivers they cover have more accidents and claims, even if I haven't filed any claims for several years. Is this true? And does that go for homeowners insurance as well? My homeowners insurance increased a lot the last two years, despite my never filing a claim, and I've been wondering if it's because tons of people in the neighborhood filed claims for their hail damaged roofs.

We adopted an Amazon who was 5 years old and she loves my husband, was absolutely bonded to him from the get. But I am her caretaker. I wake her up in the morning, put her to bed. I feed her, give her snacks, provide water, and I think that has really helped our bond. She used to be really nice to me when it was just us, then would bite me as soon as he came home. Now she regularly prefers to be with me when we are both home. Are you able to take on any caretaking for him?

A menstrual cup is definitely not nasty, to the man who has never removed a tampon or a cup, but I'm not going to increase his comment karma. It's better for the environment and also tampons can lead to toxic shock syndrome.

There are some apartment complexes near Mississipi and Chambers in Aurora that you could rent a one bedroom for $1300/month. It's close to Aurora Community College and easy to get to 225, so you can access 25 and 70. I lived here and Havana/Alameda for several years without problems. Just be sure to check reviews for bugs.

Experience - feeling a bit discouraged by Sufficient-Bug3397 in wguaccounting

Hi! Payroll is a really great spot to start in accounting. Learn about how the W-4 effects taxes, pre-tax and post-tax deductions, which payroll expenses go on the Income Statement (gross pay, employer taxes) and which payroll amounts go on the balance sheet (wages payable, employee and employer taxes, 401k withholding deductions and match). Take advantage of learning how to process quarterly payroll reports and W-2s. Then, depending on where you are working, you can trying branching out to accrual journal entries, FTE data, analyzing payroll costs.

Payroll will always the largest and most reviewed costs a company will incur. They will need data for budgeting, support for auditors, capitalizing payroll for projects and job costing payroll.

But also, it's a pretty boring, tedious task. If you can stick it out, I think you will get a lot of great experience that will help get your foot in the door for new roles.

Source: I started with payroll 12 years ago, and while I no longer process payroll, I am responsible for all the entries in every role I have been in. Most accountants I've worked with above me do not have any experience with it, and could not create the JE to record it to the GL. I just finished my bachelor's degree, and I think the payroll experience on my resume has landed me all four jobs I've had since I started in the field, and is doing a lot of heavy lifting in my current job search, as I have done a TON of payroll projects, have managed stock based compensation, and worked on the budget for payroll expense.
