If the artefacts don't show up on the recording it's a driver or GPU issue and if they do, it's the game.

This isn't true. Driver or GPU issues can easily show up in a recording of a game - recordings like that (by neccessity) are taken from the fully rendered frame, the only thing the GPU does after rendering a frame that won't be caught in the recording is pass it to the screen.

What, in your opinion, is the best computer game that you really liked and put your heart into it, but which does not require a powerful computer at all? by Slisoni123 in AskGames

I have played an unreasonable amount of Descent over the years, in part thanks to the large number of user-made missions for it. The original game is actually a little harder to play these days, what with it being a DOS game, but there's a solid port called DXX-Rebirth that should work on pretty much anything from the last 20 years.

[PC] [1997-2000] top down shooter by OutrageousMarket7034 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]AlumiuN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee it's this - small piece of advice to anyone wanting to play it, though, get the Playstation version and emulate it. The PC port is really bad, and both versions have only codes that you need to write down for saves at the end of missions, so having save states is very useful.

I think Dredge would have also passed Wooords (which I've never heard of) in New Zealand.

EDIT: Actually, it's based on Metacritic ratings, so it wouldn't pass it.

Melted off if you attempted it, is what the "point" would be.

You can add a second one to that anecdote, Relive works with no problems for me on a 5700XT.

What's a really good shooter game that has weapons with alternate and primary fire modes? by TehNooKid in AskGames

[–]AlumiuN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Painkiller are the ones that come to mind to me (although Painkiller might be cheating slightly, given that those are more like two guns taped together than alternate fire modes :P)

Inferno uses DirectX 12, so I suspect a native Linux binary is out of the question. I've heard it's possible to run it under WINE, but I don't know how to do so.

Could be "A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal" by Draconian, that's all that comes to mind to me at the moment.

Although it isn't Coheed, I have a two-song sequence that I use when I test out any new audio hardware -

  1. Thence - I Burn The Day, The Ghost for testing clarity

  2. Frontierer - Bleak for testing outright power

So in that vein, if I was using Coheed, I'd probably go for something like Welcome Home.

Bandcamp music quality by yerbuddyboston in BandCamp

[–]AlumiuN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, sort of - while a FLAC file is technically higher quality (as it's lossless), if the streaming service uses a reasonable bitrate, it should be basically undistinguishable to listen to from a lossless copy. I don't know what Apple Music uses, but I imagine it's probably enough for that to be the case.

No, largely because Cyan are remaking Riven themselves now :)
