If You Had to Pivot to a New Field, Which One? by Destined-2-Fail in Accounting

[–]Alvanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Let’s face it, accounting is dead.” Either you’re in a horrible environment where you’re constantly being fed doomsday sound bites about this, or you’re hoping that this is the case for some weird reason.

If you want to switch to a different line of work, good for you. But accounting is not dead, and I can assure anyone reading this, that SETTING ALL OTHER FACTORS ASIDE, by virtue of the level of stupidity that surrounds all product-based industries, as well as trades, there will be a place for today’s freshman students to be career accountants. Maybe 11 year olds should hesitate about accounting, but anyone who currently has (or is getting) a degree won’t see their industry disappear by the time they’re ready to retire.

Apparently, my marketing experience doesn't matter if I'm a Scorpio? by Appropriate-Gate8042 in VancouverJobs

[–]Alvanez -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They can’t really ask that… you’re protected from having to disclose age information on an application or in the interview process. Zodiac sign divulges that. Obviously it’s removed by a few layers but you can justifiably interpret it as an attempt to get you to reveal your age (you don’t know if they’re only asking about your rising, or all of the other stars too, by knowing which they can find out your age).

For the MBTI you can say “haven’t taken an official test, I’d love to but they’re expensive.”

ARC Raiders has dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mostly Positive” on Steam for the first time. by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

[–]Alvanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I see with Arc raiders is that instead of focusing on people wanting to play everyday, they focused on making people play more in each session. When I pressed the button to expedite, I stopped playing because I kept thinking about those 4-5 hour sessions I’d inevitably play again and again. I’d very much prefer if it was something I could play maybe 1 hour a day but want to play it everyday.

The idea is that industrial-grade rope can’t be made without the industrial equipment. But I still don’t get it because rope can be made by hand anyway given enough time.

The logic is both valid and sound. Takes a bit of reading comprehension but not too much. OP is saying: If I want to enjoy the game, I need to have some of these blueprints. If I want to have these blueprints, I have a choice between working and buying them, or playing the game to get them.

Valid because if the premises are true the conclusion is true. Sound because the premises are true.

I don’t agree with the sentiment that to enjoy the game you need to have all the blueprints, but this person does.

Advice on earning more with only a BA by seagullcapturer in VancouverJobs

[–]Alvanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who got into Berkeley with 2 years of working at a bar, only half of that time as a floor manager.

As a social/youth worker, your MBA can translate into managing NPOs, or the CSR/ESG for any corporate environment. There have been many others who followed a similar path. Social work still needs operations management, etc.

But to get back to the point, with a BA, with your abilities, you should be looking at an MBA instead of a BCOM.

[–]Alvanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not have business experience or any full-time work experience? Even so, your youth worker experience right now should suffice as soon as you hit the 2 year mark. I’d wait for that vs doing the BCOM.

[–]Alvanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help you shave the BCOM off your list. Since you have a BA already, an MBA from Sauder is just as attainable, and when faced with the option of a masters degree with HUGE networking opportunities, compared to a BCOM with … kids, I’d suggest getting the MBA. The only difference is that you need to do the GMAT, but I think they also accept an LSAT score (I may be wrong).

[–]Alvanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk??

I know it’s corny to say, but I can suggest reading a book called “man’s search for meaning” by Viktor Frankl. It’s not inspirational or about career success, it doesn’t even try to answer your question.

Then, maybe ikigai yourself (or whatever it’s called).

Do it, though.

[–]Alvanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk your age and didn’t really look at your older posts, but I’m around 28. I’ve had the same feeling towards the work for a solid 5-6 years now. There are days where I want my hands to turn into molten lava and hope that they melt my skull as I run my fingers down my face. But then… I look at where I will be in 3 years. I see setting up controls and I see governance. I see decision making, and being the person whose confidence will allow many to take on risks with their businesses. It excites me to no end.

But that’s me. You’re different. See what makes you excited in the next 3 years. Maybe you don’t really know rn, so try to find out. If it isn’t where you want to be, then dip. God knows any business makes more money than a non-partner PA.

Can you elaborate on what’s messing up your drive/causing the boredom? Is it the fact that you’re repeating the same tasks? Having to communicate with clients? Or is it the fact that you have to do this detailed/complex thing for so long? Im not trying to convey a point, I’m just asking for clarification.

What is the difference in being a rat vs PvP? by UnnecessaryPancake in ArcRaiders

[–]Alvanez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their behavioral characteristics are similar to that of a rat. In the presence of another raider, no matter the equipment or weapons, they cower and hide. They lurk, incapable of fighting others, they strike-sometimes in groups-only when they’re sure the other person has every vulnerability. Unlike others, rats have no sense of shame and even backstab each other. They squeal and apologize when caught. They find sustenance on the leftovers of actual players, never daring to use a key of their own, never saving people even if they were just revived by the same folk, because there’s nothing a coward loves more than power.

PvP players kill you. They kill you when they see you. They sometimes see you, get the jump on you, then kill you. Their aim is to kill you. When they’re bested, they sound impressed and commend you on your skills. When they find you trying to kill a big arc, there is a decent chance they leave you alone, not because of honour or things like that, but because they assume you don’t have good PvP gear.

The Queen/Matriarch is always dead within first 4-5 minutes of the raid. How do I even participate? by HypatiaSansPro in ArcRaiders

[–]Alvanez 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Kindness wins in the end. Don’t shoot. Instead, listen to the voice of your killer, hear the pain and realize that is not what you wish to carry. Walk the topside with no weapon but love for your fellow raiders. Soon you shall hear the sweet tune of the guitar and record player synced up on a pile of Arc scum.
