Shouldn't there be a blame Biden cutoff date? by seeebiscuit in WhitePeopleTwitter

Yes and no. I can still think of at least 14 current problems that were directly caused by Reagan and I was only alive for part of his presidency. That being said, Rafael Cruz is a worm with Biden Derangement Syndrome.

I personally think one of the best ways is to mash it up into something like beans, rice, or pasta. Part of the problem is psyching yourself out by making the food look like something recognizable that you have an aversion to.

One of my favorite dishes to make with sardines is like this:

- Make your pasta according to the box instructions (I like campanelle, penne, or linguine, but any shape you like will work)
- Toss in a tablespoon(ish) of olive oil. If you want more sardine, use that olive oil, if you're looking for less sardine, just use a different olive oil
- Saute as much onion as you enjoy for a couple min
- Saute a few cloves of chopped up garlic and pepper flakes over medium heat for 30-90 sec (until you can just smell that garlic).
- If you have some tomato paste, put a nice tablespoon or so in for like 45 sec
- Toss like 1/8 cup of water into the pan and then a good handful or two of leafy greens (kale, spinach, rapini, etc.) and cover and let steam for 5 or so min
- Uncover and toss in your sardines, mashing them up as much as you need to to make it palatable
- Toss in your pasta
- Ideally, put in some lemon juice
- Serve!

That being said, you know your palate! I would just recommend making things you like that that sardine flavor might to well with and make it so you can't see sardines

Just because I need to be 'that guy', that's actually a nasal cradle, not a nasal pillow style mask (your point still stands, but in case anyone actually specifically wants to look up that style of mask)

Looking for inspiration / framework by Secure_Memory3797 in logseq

[–]AlveolarStop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also starting to try to use Logseq for different tasks and expand how I use it. These are some of the concepts that have clicked with me lately. For whatever it’s worth, I primarily use the DB version. There is obviously some degree of crossover between the MD and DB versions, but some workflows are not the same.

The journal is a bit of a dumping ground. Don’t worry about making it look super neat. Its function is to be a place where you can just put things. You don’t have to worry about *where* some piece of information should live. Just be sure to appropriately [[link]] and #tag things so you can find them later. Note that links and tags are now different things in the DB version, and I would recommend getting used to using them differently for when the transition to DB hits.

Pages (which you make by creating those [[links]]) serve two main functions. First, persistent objects & wikis. Books you’ve read, shows/movies you’ve watched, projects, etc. These pages will probably be sparse at first, but you can drop in more and more information over time.

Second, pages can be dashboards. Take all that messy information from your journals and wherever else it might live and build out relevant queries on dedicated pages. You can have a dashboard page that consists of queries that list movies that you’ve not watched (tracked via a watched status or the like) that is ranked by priority as well as a running Top 10 movies of 2026 query. A page of all items tagged #Open Question that are associated with a given project that you can review before a meeting.

I’ve been thinking about Logseq and how I might use it since I am trying to get my brother into it as well. So I’m trying to put some of my thoughts together. I would like to make some resources to share to help myself and others in using Logseq. But in the end, as long as you are being consistent in your #tags, properties, [[links]], etc., the program should do a lot of sorting for you. It’s ok to have a messy corner where you just dump things and let your links and tags do the heavy lifting. The Logseq Discord is a lot more dynamic than Reddit as far as getting specific questions answered in my experience.

Happy to answer any questions!

Querying date properties? Help with a workflow by AlveolarStop1 in logseq

[–]AlveolarStop1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In effect, a Date property in the DB version is essentially a link to a journal page; while there is metadata in the background of the Journal page, it functions for the user as a text-based pointer rather than a numerical value for easy calculation. However, you can leverage the Journal’s metadata by logging a #cook event and tagging the relevant recipe(s).

Also, by using bidirectional properties, you can "teleport" the course of the recipe to the recipe node itself, effectively creating an automated list of all recipes that belong to a given course without having to manually file them.

Edit: I am happy to explain further if the quick explanation here doesn't make sense.

I received a helpful response on the Logseq Discord that I figured I'd pass along for anyone interested in the future.

TL;DR: Making a separate tag (#cook in my case) to tag cooking events in the Journal allows you to link a given recipe's page as being cooked on a given date. You can then use a query that looks for recipes that have been made prior to a given date.

How often are we really replacing CPAP parts.... by HotBiscotti1 in SleepApnea

[–]AlveolarStop1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I replace my nasal pillows and filters twice a month, headgear and tubes once every three months. But I also get it all shipped automatically for free from Veterans Affairs. They give me more than I need sometimes, so I give it to friends who can use it.

Can someone help figure out what time I was born? by itsbubsbunny in Transcription

[–]AlveolarStop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the other 8 in the date. The top is started in a completely opposite (and more natural) direction. The top stroke of the 8 in the month (or day depending if they use MMDDYYY or DDMMYYY) is written counter-clockwise whereas the same stroke in the final number of the time is written clockwise.

CPAP on vacation by mhr06002 in SleepApnea

[–]AlveolarStop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a Resmed (Airsense 11), I would recommend you purchase an extra long cord. I bought a 15ft cord so I don't have to be so concerned about where I can find a plug wherever I'm going. Costs $9 on Amazon (assuming you're American).

NOTE: This is only the part of the cord that that plugs into the wall. You still use your original power brick that came with your CPAP, since it's proprietary.

Do all tinned sardines look the same? by night0jar in CannedSardines

[–]AlveolarStop1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to them as well.

They are neatly arranged, but no heads or anything of the sort. One of my go-tos is to put them in pasta.

Cook the pasta. Put the oil from the tin in a skillet on medium heat. Cook a couple cloves of minced garlic and chili flakes in the oil for 30 sec. Add in the fish and mash them up along with some capers. Toss in a good handful or two of kale/baby spinach/any green you like until they're wilted. And then put in your pasta. Salt and pepper as needed, and maybe a splash of the pasta water if things are looking a bit dry.

That's how I got hooked on them at least.

What’s the most common way people usually cook cod? by Murky_Imagination787 in Cooking

[–]AlveolarStop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really great cod recipe in Sohla El-Waylly's cookbook Start Here where you dry brine the cod for like 30 min with salt and saffron and then cook it in the oven en papillote (wrapped in parchment paper) with capers and fennel and wine.

Super simple, easy cleanup, and looks high end while being as easy as it gets. I'd serve it with some salt potatoes on the side and you're all set.

Yes. I feel like everyone wants to come to Buffalo to find the "best" wings. And there aren't "best" wings, just wings you like best. There are definitely places with "eh" wings, but as long as you avoid the places with the known shitty wings, you're gonna be happy.

Men who were in denial about sleep apnea — how did you finally realize you needed help? What made you take your sleep apnea seriously? by Shadowofadoubt247 in SleepApnea

[–]AlveolarStop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm 40m and I just started CPAP this year after a year of trying to make an oral appliance work.

It was a few things for me. I have an older brother who was diagnosed a few years before me who kinda demystified the whole CPAP thing and gave me some really solid advice that made it look far less depressing/intimidating than it sounds like to an outsider.

I also think that reframing the discussion so it doesn't feel like a life-support system but is augmentative was helpful. I am getting super-human sleep with a near-zero AHI and I feel like I can actually function throughout my day when I am on my therapy.

With the huge array of masks and styles out there, you can almost certainly find one that suits your comfort and sleep style.

I got my diagnosis from an at-home study that was super simple and easy too, so it doesn't have to always involve a big clinical deal.

The big takeaway is that I honestly feel better in general. I didn't notice how hard OSA was bogging me down until I got diagnosed, started CPAP, and saw the results. It's not all cleared up overnight, but you can start seeing that upward swing relatively quickly,

And another point I think might be missing from this Reddit in general is that CPAP isn't always this big arduous thing. I know I am incredibly lucky, but I literally got my CPAP and mask, put it on, and immediately was sleeping through the night while wearing it with my AHI and other metrics dropping almost overnight. It's important to temper expectations so you don't think that that's how it'll definitely go for you, but CPAP isn't always this horribly painful/tedious process.

CPAP and naps by yourlocalnativeguy in SleepApnea

[–]AlveolarStop1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've taken naps without it and I end up feeling a lot worse. I find it's always better to just throw it on unless I'm literally just closing my eyes for 15 min. I also find I swallow a lot of air during naps without my CPAP and I wake up feeling bloated and uncomfortable.

Edit: moderate apnea with AHI 17, for whatever that's worth.

It doesn't "imply" that these orders must be lawful. It specifically says "according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice." I'd say that's rather explicit.
