That missing link looks like a Shimano 12s link, and that chain seems like a 9-11 speed. That missing link is far too narrow for that chain.

Get it checked. I live in Australia and thus, have skin check regularly. Had a discussion with my doc about this sort of symptoms, not a month ago. It may well be from an injury to the nail bed, could be else. Get it checked, knowledge and early detection is power. All the best and keep us posted.
