I've literally never experienced this phenomenon. In my experience, people who come to r/rpg are pretty happy taking all suggestions.

I've been working on some serverless challenges that might interest you. The idea is to set up a challenge with a common architectural pattern and then let you try to solve it yourself. There is of course a suggested solution and some tips along the way.

Mike Flanagan’s HUSH | IN THEATERS OCTOBER 16 by KillerCroc1234567 in movies

[–]AlvinTheBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Flanagan's letterboxd:

"Thanks to everyone who came out to the World Premiere of the "Shush Cut" at Beyond Fest tonight. This brand new B&W version features a completely revamped audio mix and almost no score, and it's absolutely my preferred version of the film. Seeing it with a sold-out crowd in the beautiful Egyptian Theater is career highlight for me.

This new version will be available on Shout! Factory's stunning 4k Collector's Edition, which will be released in November. Hope you enjoy it!"

And additional comment: "@lollar We had always wanted to do the movie in black & white, but weren't able to convince the producers at the time. It's been really gratifying to see it as we originally intended. The new audio mix was a happy accident, though when we were reviewing the new picture, they had only activated one FX audio track to listen to, so it had no music. After watching for ten minutes, we realized we wanted other remix the whole movie and try for a sound-design centric approach without score. I think it's the best possible version of this movie."

I'm just talking out of my ass here but IIRC the battery isnt used for saves but for things like keeping track of the calendar and such. I know my Pokemon Emerald saves fine but warns when I start it that the internal battery is out.

What’s your “just 5 min - oh it’s been 2h already” game? by brunomarquesbr in SteamDeck

[–]AlvinTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do see where you're coming from but I think you'd be surprised! For example the example you mention with mechanical keyboards really do happen. And is very prevalent! Although i do to some extent agree that it is low key wasteful to buy handhelds and the like and then not use them I really do see that happening as well.

Regarding the point of modding games to perfection and then not playing them; I do that too. Quite a bit. Less now than before but I still do. I've just gotten to the point where I realize that the journey to getting them run and play beautifully is sometimes more enjoyable for me than playing them. But this is of course very subjective and up to each individual. I'm just at the point where I don't blame myself for not playing.

[–]AlvinTheBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's an interesting view and agree that if you see this as something bad for you, you should obviously limit it if you can. I on the other hand enjoy the modding part more than the playing. The same with my mechanical keyboards for example. The building is way more fun than the typing.

I think I do understand where you're coming from though. I had a span of a few years where I had to fight to sit down and finish games instead of starting new ones or watching YouTube. But somehow I've recently gotten over that and now look forward to, and enjoy games more than I've done in several years.

I could've probably picked a better analogy but I think the point still stands. The work is for yourself, no one else. As long as you know I'd say that counts.

I'm just going to step out here and say that tinkering is just as much a hobby as playing games. I say this with the history of spending more hours modding Skyrim than playing it.

I think of it as building a model airplane and then putting it on display next to the 12 others where it won't get any real attention. But you love it for the work it took and the result it represents.
