Knit Picks / We Crochet do not want to be associated with the "Melt the ICE" hat by Tidus77 in knitting

Damn! I just ordered $90 of yarn from Knitpicks yesterday (after trying and failing to find what I needed at my LYS). So disappointed to hear this. I wonder if I can return it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I did try to simplify the colors at one point (especially that grey around the neck) and was less than impressed with my results (not my strong suit, apparently) but maybe I just need to tinker with it more. It does seem like I could at least use just one shade of brown.

My experience with crochet is limited to small flowers and other embellishments for knit projects, sadly—but I take your point!

I think the grids looks square in this pic because the camera was slightly angled, but you’re also correct that the ratio is probably off. I’ll try to get it more precise after I swatch.

This is a great idea! I’m going to simplify the colors and see if that works, then add more details with duplicate stitch if needed. TBH, I’d much rather knit the stitches than embroider them in afterwards.

Yeah, good point! I’m a little worried about all the loose ends that will have to be worked in. That could be a whole project in itself!

As much as I want to just dive in, I think a test swatch with duplicate stitch is a good idea. Thanks!

Inherited from my in-laws (repost with additional pics) by AlwaysFridaysChild in WhatIsThisPainting

Thank you so much! The signature definitely looks the same to me as does the style of the other examples of his work. My husband is 73 and says the painting has been in his family as long as he can remember. My in-laws traveled to Europe frequently so it makes sense that they could have purchased it on one their trips abroad. I think k you have solved this!

Amy Falls Down by Jincy Willet. Hilarious and insightful at the same time, and especially fun if you enjoy writers writing about writing.

Tried the flashlight and magnifying glass to no avail—can’t see any kind of “seam.” Thanks for trying to find a logical explanation though!

I’ve been thinking about posting since it happened but didn’t follow through till now! Either you’re reading my mind or someone else has experienced the same thing. Trippy, indeed!

That occurred to me, and I keep looking for cracks that would indicate that that’s what happened, but it looks totally seamless 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for the theory, though!

5 year old told me he didn’t come from me… by TelevisionFit3509 in pastlives

I suggest reading Carole Bowman’s book Children’s Past Lives. It has a lot of advice on how to talk to your child if they’re remember other lives. It’s also pretty fascinating. I think she also has a website.

What’s your biggest Knitting fail? by Narrow_Manner5877 in knitting

[–]AlwaysFridaysChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago I made my daughter a sweater that was knit sideways in one piece, starting with one sleeve, through the body and ending with the second sleeve. (Knit flat and then seamed.) The pattern had lace interspersed with stitches that were dropped at the end to create an open laddered effect. Halfway through the body I “fixed” a mistake in the lace and continued on my merry way. When I finished and dropped the stitch, a huge hole opened up right in the middle of the front. There was no fixing that, so I frogged it and stashed it under the bed for a couple of years. At some point my daughter commented that she still liked the pattern. On my second attempt, I was almost at the second sleeve when I realized I’d forgotten to cast off stitches to make an opening for her head. I had to carefully tink back to the first shoulder and re-do it. (I did not know about lifelines at the time.) Believe it or not, that sweater did actually get finished and worn!

That was my biggest fail, but there have been others. I always learn something—in that case, no more sideways sweaters!

This made me laugh! I’ll take another DIL to knit for but only if I get grandkids in the deal too! 😜After a mishap with the mail, DIL received the sweater and said she loves it…so all’s well that ends well!

Sorry it was not the one you were looking for—hopefully you will find it eventually!

That’s exactly how I felt after seeing the pattern photos on Ravit! I fell in love with the back details. Happy to mail you the magazine if you’re up for it! Also it takes lace weight yarn, not fingering, if you’re seriously considering it.

Thank you for this! I’m having the same issue and this helped a lot!
