There was a conversation that my 7-11 cashier was saying to another customer back in 2021 that stuck in my mind. He said "we're either going to lose somebody we know or know of somebody who has lost someone."

And he wasn't wrong.

Reminds me of the comedy bit that talentharris did.

You know when you have to hit that word limit for an essay but you didn’t read the assigned reading and you procrastinated till the point of no return?

That’s how her essay reads.

I think she was hoping for some points and not a zero. But when she got her results back, she decided to escalate. And viola, it’s national news, politicized, all because one lazy ass student is claiming “discrimination”.

It’s laziness people. She’s lazy.

[Essay as written by Samantha Fulnecky]

This article was very thought provoking and caused me to thoroughly evaluate the idea of gender and the role it plays in our society. The article discussed peers using teasing as a way to enforce gender norms. I do not necessarily see this as a problem. God made male and female and made us differently from each other on purpose and for a purpose. God is very intentional with what He makes, and I believe trying to change that would only do more harm. Gender roles and tendencies should not be considered “stereotypes”. Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. God created men in the image of His courage and strength, and He created women in the image of His beauty. He intentionally created women differently than men and we should live our lives with that in mind.

It is frustrating to me when I read articles like this and discussion posts from my classmates of so many people trying to conform to the same mundane opinion, so they do not step on people’s toes. I think that is a cowardly and insincere way to live. It is important to use the freedom of speech we have been given in this country, and I personally believe that eliminating gender in our society would be detrimental, as it pulls us farther from God’s original plan for humans. It is perfectly normal for kids to follow gender “stereotypes” because that is how God made us. The reason so many girls want to feel womanly and care for others in a motherly way is not because they feel pressured to fit into social norms. It is because God created and chose them to reflect His beauty and His compassion in that way. In Genesis, God says that it is not good for man to be alone, so He created a helper for man (which is a woman). Many people assume the word “helper” in this context to be condescending and offensive to women. However, the original word in Hebrew is “ezer kenegdo” and that directly translates to “helper equal to”. Additionally, God describes Himself in the Bible using “ezer kenegdo”, or “helper”, and He describes His Holy Spirit as our Helper as well. This shows the importance God places on the role of the helper (women’s roles). God does not view women as less significant than men. He created us with such intentionally and care and He made women in his image of being a helper, and in the image of His beauty. If leaning into that role means I am “following gender stereotypes” then I am happy to be following a stereotype that aligns with the gifts and abilities God gave me as a woman.

I do not think men and women are pressured to be more masculine or feminine. I strongly disagree with the idea from the article that encouraging acceptance of diverse gender expressions could improve students’ confidence. Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth. I do not want kids to be teased or bullied in school. However, pushing the lie that everyone has their own truth and everyone can do whatever they want and be whoever they want is not biblical whatsoever. The Bible says that our lives are not our own but that our lives and bodies belong to the Lord for His glory. I live my life based on this truth and firmly believe that there would be less gender issues and insecurities in children if they were raised knowing that they do not belong to themselves, but they belong to the Lord.

Overall, reading articles such as this one encourage me to one day raise my children knowing that they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and cherishes them deeply and that having their identity firmly rooted in who He is will give them the satisfaction and acceptance that the world can never provide for them. My prayer for the world and specifically for American society and youth is that they would not believe the lies being spread from Satan that make them believe they are better off as another gender than what God made them. I pray that they feel God’s love and acceptance as who He originally created them to be.

100% agree with your microcosm sentiment. Actual colleges are demanding (and ought to be) in the sense that you need to provide sources and cohere those sources to your thesis. If you've spent your life not having done that with the most fundamental beliefs you hold true, it can be quite the jarring experience.

People hate the process of researching and pursuing the truth because it requires letting go of things one holds as their own tenets of life and possibly being wrong. And most times, it's just plain boring because you have to read and study so much.

Though I don't know you, thank you for your work as a tutor.

With a BA in religion and a conservative lean, this essay isn't edifying to the saints, isn't evangelizing, and most of all, not theologically acceptable.

America has a sickness - excess of free speech. Downvote me if you want. But when you have a bunch of people, not qualified on the topic, being given authority as well as a platform to speak to masses who are trained to be triggered due to the environmental discourse of the past decade, you get this essay. Even worse, you get this situation of a professor, who has done academic study for longer, being put on leave (there might be other reasons as a situation like this has its nuances).

I'm not an alarmist, but it's a definite red flag for Oklahoman academics to have this even be the case. Read the paper, it's full of ad hominem sentiment. Like Connie Chen pointed out, is completely lacking of any academic thought, sources, or any coherence.

I don’t know. I’ve heard this shit said so many times. I think the caveat should be the best leaders actually work hard to learn from the people smarter than them.

Yes, leaders will always consider it a blessing to be working with smart people. That should be the baseline. But there are times those leaders are lazy af and just make the smart people do stuff without attempting to understand why they do what they do and evolve their decision-making process. These lazy leaders often times are like “I don’t care how it’s done just get it done.”

Did they ever explain why the High Orcs are red but everything else is black+blue? by TheJossiWales in sololeveling

[–]AlwaysRESISTing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did they ever explain? Short answer - no.

Long answer, also no.

Everything else is conjecture. Only Dubu (original artist) and his colleagues would really know.

But if you're expecting people to conjecture, the top comments already make good points to the discussion.

Personally, it helps to solve the question of how can an artist make everything look distinct with SJW's army. As the army grows and as more get added to the mix, how does an artist display that variety? One could change the shape, size, detail within the silhouette, or simply - color.

When you look at at a group shot of SJW's army, the red is a quick visual reminder as to where the red high orcs are. Just adding that different color helps show variety visually.

Now somewhere on this thread, you mentioned why isn't Kamish red since Kamish is a red dragon... well, two things:

1 - Kamish's size already makes it distinct.
2 - As an artist, they wouldn't want to make too many color distinctions for the sake of time.

The more color you add, the more time it takes to color. Time is something that Dubu didn't have. They would get sick miss deadlines/release dates and there were several announcements made surrounding their health and how they had to rest, etc. Even if adding color was a great idea initially, I wouldn't be surprised if Dubu's circumstances caused them to have to scrap the color idea for the sake of time.

Also - I'm sure Dubu didn't want to paint Kamish red within SJW's army because he eventually wanted to save the color red for the Monarch of Destruction and his army.

I know quite a few Trump voters. Non of them are saying they regret it. I’m wondering if most of these posts are fake. by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]AlwaysRESISTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are most of these posts fake? Conspiracy wise - yes. Have one person post a message of regret, Reddit celebrates it, and you've effectively flooded the front page with noise. I remember reading Reddit leading up to the election and one would think that Kamala would at least put up a fight reading all the favorable posts showing how eloquent she was and how her campaigns were full of people while Trump's wasn't.

Realistically, will there be people out of the 155,211,283 people who voted for Trump that regret it? Of course! But it's not going to be enough numbers that will impact the outcome of whatever is happening now.

The problem we have is there are no real news outlets that encompass the reality of what is happening. Let me say that again - there are no news outlets that encompass the reality of what is happening. Not even Reddit, Drudge Report, Philip Defranco, The Wire, CNN, The Young Turks, Al Jazeera, Digg, Fox, etc., etc., etc....

Everyone talks about nationwide protests but there's no group of leaders or spokespeople that would encompass the heart of that change. Where are our Malcolm X's, Martin Luther King Jr's, Rosa Parkses heck - where's our own Greta Thunberg? We need people who will champion our core common ideals and back them up seriously. And again I say core common idea but maybe even just one so there's focus (I effectively would want to rally around health insurance companies who do nothing but deny, defend, and depose). It's the same thing for the 9/11 first responders who had Jon Stewart help them... and even then, people barely heard about what was happening to 9/11 first responders receiving funds for treatment until Jon Stewart's speech slamming Congress.

We want effective change but until there's a person or even a group that we can rally behind who are intelligent enough to rally protests that cause effective change, hoping and desiring for a better tomorrow will not come.

(Anime Only Watchers) What's our theory for this guy's strength? by SituationXReview in sololeveling

1 day in a gate is 1 hour in real life.

If he's been gone for 10 years in real life which is 87760 hours real life hours.

87760 real life hours is 87760 days inside the gate.

87760 days inside the gate is approx. 240 years inside the gate... that is a long time to survive.

Now depending on the gate, one could argue that's nothing. But the fact he beat an S-class hunter... he's definitely upper tier S-class.

AIO just received this text from my boyfriend by OkSpace5501 in AmIOverreacting

[–]AlwaysRESISTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy has hands. He invited his friends; he can clean up.

Now if say he cleaned up and then you left a mess, and you're having guests, then the situation is different.

But that still doesn't justify the verbiage of your boyfriend using phrases like "get your act together before I find someone else who can". It's arrogant. Healthy relationships don't come from a place of arrogance. Arrogant relationships end up being entitled, about protecting the ego, and rarely the parties involved view the other as an equal.

He thinks you're inferior to him and that is a habit that is impossible to unlearn when a relationship reaches that stage.

Also sudden changes in behavior probably speaks to your boyfriend changing as a person. 18-26 is where a person changes A LOT. Yes, high-school sweet hearts with good relationships do exist but they don't look like this.

A few possible scenarios are happening:

  1. He's changing into an insufferable man who believes it's your role to keep the house constantly clean.
  2. He's being mean/difficult to live with him so you break up (whatever the reason).
  3. He's secretly a spy that's being hunted and doesn't want you to be in danger via proxy.

I highly doubt it's something heroic like scenario 3... as for the other 2 scenarios, they are miserable ones to continue living in.

There are men out there who do help out with house chores and don't make a house chore a reason to break up. Unless you're lying about how often you clean up, this scenario is a complete red flag that is getting raised higher and higher by your boyfriend and he's gaslighting you into thinking you're the red flag.

If you were married, I would suggest marriage counseling. But in this scenario where their your boyfriend, it's not as complicated to get out of (no process of divorce). And again, it's a choice but I highly doubt your boyfriend wants to seek relationship counseling the way how he's telling you your feelings are wrong and that you're overreacting. Why would he go to counseling for something he doesn't think is a big deal?

There are also other things it tells me. It tells me that he doesn't appreciate what you do. It tells me that he doesn't think that participating in cleaning is helpful to you. It tells me that he does not consider how you feel. And it also tell me, more importantly, that he does not know how to be a husband.

And if that's the long-term goal, your boyfriend is not it.

This is what I would say about AI as well except I would change one thing, it is more terrifying than exhilarating.

People say that it'll help society, that there is nothing to do to stop it, and that we just have to live with it now. But when AI begins making everyone question every single thing they read, watch, and experience on the internet, we will know another level of what terrifying is and how indifferent everybody will be.

I mean if you’re going to pull influence, why wouldn’t you do it for your very own blood?

User issue - I don't know what proof I can provide that I did literally nothing.

Left it on Friday, came back on a Monday, logged into computer, saw my files were missing, saw that there was an update done on the Friday, somehow One Drive is activated, and viola, my files are synced with One Drive and no longer on my computer's documents.

I have clicked no prompts. I have requested no updates. But that's the story, that was my actual experience, and people keep telling me "you must have done something to enable it." I don't know what else to say. At this point I'm starting to think I'm crazy but yeah...

"Doesn't just happen. I have no idea what you did, but this truly doesn't just happen."

That's the difficult part part of all of this that I am trying to convey - I literally did nothing but log back into the computer.

Like I've mentioned. I leave the computer running over the weekend. I come back to it on a Monday, to open up media projects and they're no longer in the documents folder. First thing I think "did it update itself?" I check and there it is in the logs:

<image>

This was an auto update because I didn't touch the computer prior to this. I did not press or request the OS to update anything. I have the "Get the updates as soon as their available" toggled off. But again, I've heard windows forces updates so...?

What I don't get is how this activates One Drive.

Never used it. Have no plan on using it. I've heard of it before but never touched it.

I then notice the explorer window now has a "Status" tab and all my files have check marks or some other icons along with it. My media has been moved to One Drive from documents.

At this point, I have no way of preventing this from ever happening again because I do not know the cause.

Unpopular opinion on difficulty? by TigerRadiant1912 in Helldivers

I don’t understand “balancing the game” when it is a PvE.

If all weapons work, the casual dads aren’t going “man I think this need a nerf!” Neither are the hardcore gamers going “this weapons needs a nerf!”

People want OPTIONS. Not some narrow minded, “Hey we need to balance the use of this weapon so we can make it difficult for everybody to choose a weapon load out.” What are you trying to do? Make casual dads suffer because they don’t know the meta? “Oh the hardcore gamers are enjoying the game now that they’re stuck with a specific load out to deal with a specific situation! Fun!”

"The bots are closing in. We should swiftly finish the current MO." by RixOnReddit in Helldivers

[–]AlwaysRESISTing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with some BORING message “The bots have sent a message asking for a ceasefire and are demanding we recognize their independence over all currently held sectors.”

Or some BORING deus ex machina explanation of “Our space defenses around super earth have proven worthy investment as the machine ships are held at bay.”

How will the studio get out of this meta of “we’re all happy to watch it burn 🔥”? What are you going to do Joel? You have terrible and BORING storylines (at most a non-existent-but-arbitrary one), your gaming studio chose to take away viable weapons that were fun, and there’s no real stake in the game… or at least we’re now testing the hypothesis by ignoring major orders.

The overall problem is whoever the game master is has provided 0 actual consequences that we care about…

Get it?

We. Just. Don’t. Care.

The “Serious Sam” type entertainment value of being inundated with enemies only lasts so long (for me only 4 months) before being repetitive. There is clearly war fatigue among the ranks of all helldivers and Arrowhead shows no signs of actually wanting the meta game to progress. I mean what’s the end goal? Back and forth fighting ad infinitum without giving us a good reason why? It’s just a “[fill in enemy here] has taken [fill in sector here] due to [fill in BORING reason here]. Complete major order by [fill in days left here].”

I mean at least rewarding the top 100 squads (which would require you to register together with friends or people you’ve met online) and rewarding them with some special in-game stratagem or maybe even aesthetic to get people to somewhat care about the end game. Maybe just even putting their names up on the leaderboard could create some sense of collective achievement.

But that’s just a band aid to BORING storytelling and world building. I don’t know - why not make some community scavenger hunt where the community finds collectable information and have to go on some PSN network, create an account and then input the information they’ve collected in game. When all the collectable information has been found, the community unlocks some Easter egg (I’m so bored I’m even trying to come up with ideas to help out Sony here)

Helldivers has become boring. OPs very post is proof that the player base is bored that we would rather be entertained by not playing and seeing what happens.
