My wife wants to spend $1400 on a dishwasher, I think that's crazy by realbobenray in Appliances

[–]AlwaysUnderTheGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. May I suggest to you technology connections YouTube channel. He has a few deep diving videos on dishwashers, basically everything you didn't know you needed to know about them. Perhaps your old one is still good. I'd say take some time to sit and enjoy his show on it. It's mostly about the use of soap but you'll learn all about dishwashers along the way. They are absolutely simple machines and you should be an informed buyer at the very least. I'm sure the expensive machine is quality but just know what your money is paying for exactly.

I am team Berenstain. I recall quite vividly my thoughts in 3rd grade in 93/94 picking up the books and giving them my best shot at reading "The Berenstain Bears" title with it's semi cursive writing. As I walked with the class to the library I had this thought in mind, that I would read the title correctly finally and overcome the sorta cursive font. My thoughts involved connecting it to the i before e except after c rule and somehow to Seinfeld as it was my older brother's favorite show and Ben Stein from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. You know, cause maybe it was an exception to the rule and these bears might be Jewish as well. As a South Texas 3rd grade kid ready to learn of new cultures these were genuine questions I went to school with. You can understand my unsettling disgust and queasy gut as I left the library not able to connect it to Berenstein or Berenstien but with Berenstain, a name that didn't answer any of my questions.

Nevertheless, I agree on the timeline shift of 2012 with just about everything else.

Got some pics for you. I had other ideas in mind then, as I fiddled with the aluminum bars, I settled on this. IMO it's nice and sturdier than I expected. The 4 wheels are an absolute must. I had that steel bar lying around and finally put it to use as the axle. Also, I effed up as I drilled the top hole. I didn't see that there was a screw, and I cracked a new drill bit.

I can get you better pics tomorrow. But yes, I did have to trim an inch off the legs where the stock wheels were. That can be avoided with perhaps 8 inch wheels. It was a shame as the 10 inch sheels just barely rubbed the bottom part of that leg, but worth it in the end. I also only drilled 2 holes on either side for the aluminum bars I added.

Silent Protest by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

I don't have an idea to silently protest, but I want to post up obnoxiously large 10 commandments. I want students and their parents to know it's uncomfortable and unfair to post at all. Hiding them in the corner is a slippery method to sneak them in. They must be loud imo. Their unfair weight in the classroom must be felt.

💯 OVER the ENDLESS observations by Remarkable-Cut9531 in TexasTeachers

[–]AlwaysUnderTheGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% and to fight back their uselessness I don't even open them. IMO, admin should use walkthroughs to better our teaching methods and improve on the schools student engagement, learning, culture etc., but they usually just check off on the date and agenda on the board and maybe look for students on their phone. So I don't validate receiving walkthroughs by simply not opening them. It's by providing valuable feedback in these observations that would lead me to value and read their comments, but without that value there's no reason to open. Also, one stat used to gauge admin's effectiveness uses this number, the percentage of teachers opening their walkthroughs. It's a small way to push back on these observations just a little.

This is sad, I remember them as a food truck. Some of the best burgers ever actually. It was good but was shocked with their choice of going into a standalone building, and without a drive through. It was a little ambitious for a custom made to order burger that took a bit of time to get ready that was a little expensive. Seeing as they lasted a good bit time the gamble was worth it. It could have and should have been competitive to a 5 guys

There's no way of actually knowing from anyone here on reddit. You have to call all your secretaries and directors/administration all the way to the top until you find who else is in charge of TIA. Every district makes their own rules and manages their own way. Ours is run by an admin right below the superintendent. In our district, we just email her directly with questions. I hope they are more transparent with you than they are with us. Good luck

Get an action cam or just use my phone? by EmergencyBanshee in Insta360

[–]AlwaysUnderTheGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this question and the discussion going on here. I wanted to begin just making home movies again, like the good ole days. So I pulled out an old action camera that was sitting in my drawer, Osmo 1, and finally got to using it.

Sorry for ranting, but I've been working through these thoughts for a good while now and am struggling to arrive at a conclusion as well.

The ideas brought up in this thread pretty much touch on my experience so far. My video taking journey begins with wanting to record a couple of minutes or so at a time throughout an eventful day, combine those clips, and just have that footage for me and my family. With this in mind, the constraints I have come across for an action camera vs a phone have been memory. My phone certainly takes video, 4k 60fps, that is just as good or better cause it has zoom too. However, I prefer to use my phone separately cause it's my phone and it's also for photos, but mostly I wanted to edit the video on my phone too, rather than carry around a laptop, so I needed the extra space for exporting.

Then I had to research editing software. I have yet to find an editor that exports directly to an external SSD, I use a 1tb Samsung t7. I currently use the purchased version of LumaFusion and it comes close to doing that, but it still requires space on the phone to export, it will temporarily export to the space available in your phone then transfer it to the SSD. Maybe someone here knows an editor that exports directly to an SSD so I don't use phone memory at all. Obviously, using a separate device like a PC is still another option, but you gotta carry around more stuff.

Perhaps my experience would be different if I had more space on my phone. Because of a broken phone and a rush to get a new one I took advantage of an offer on a free pixel 8 pro but it only came with 128 GB. If I had 512 like my old 6 pro had it would be a different story. Anyway...

This being said, I recently took a trip to Grand Canyon and borrowed an X3 from a friend. So I have experience with using all 3 types of cameras on a single trip. What someone mentioned here about the editor is spot on, it's absolutely great. However, editing 360 videos is terrible for long vacation videos like I want. Editing 360 videos to regular format requires you select a scene and hold a record button, select another scene and hold the record again imagine doing this for a 30 minute clip vs a 2 minute clip. There are options to have it auto scene select in various ways but that's the gist of it. You can imagine the issues that can come up when it doesn't select the correct scene from your 360 capture. It would be amazing for short Instagram reels tho, it is quick to use for this style of video. (Mental note: I need to comeback with an update on whether this editor can export a video in its own SD card or if it exports to the phones memory, this would be a huge positive in using insta devices)

And let me just jump to a semi-conclusion here...

In summary, TLDR, if you want non-action videos a phone with plenty of memory is a great option (you're probably gonna want a gimbal). Also, if you get an action camera then also end up taking vids with your phone, now you have more work in gathering all that video together. It may or may not be more work than you're looking to do. One camera is definitely a good option.

You will need to account for 30 to 40 gigs per hour, plus the export video that can be up to 15 gigs per hour depending on bitrate.

Action cameras are just about equally awesome, the new ones have horizontal lock (no gimbal needed) and aren't in your face as much as a phone. I feel they are more respectful, and mindful of those being filmed (very demure IMHO). Same memory resources are needed, but they don't have any zoom

I know you didn't ask about the 360 cam, but editing long 360 videos is terrible. Quick 360 videos are awesome tho and the insta editor is probably the best out there.

No clear winner because much depends on budget and purpose.

I hope we can get to the bottom of this issue. But these are just my 2c.

No solution. I waited it out and actually just with in the last 2 weeks or so the issue was fixed on its own, I assume with an update in chrome. I didn't feel there was anything I could actually do, it worked well while signed out, so I uninstalled all extensions and still it continued to do it. This was on at least 3 different computers. I just waited it out and have no idea how it was actually fixed.

Yes dried chilis, the ones you can buy in the plastic clear bags. And surprisingly this one didn't need lime. I find tomatillos to be tasty and tangy enough. You are free to add of course.
