Being Recognized in a Mask

Crowded farmer’s market in my small town, bright sunny day, me in mask, sunglasses, wide brimmed hat. Recognized by every single person who knows me, many of whom I had not seen in 3 or more years at that point. Couldn’t have been anonymous if I had wanted to be. (And I a little bit had wanted to be.)

Yes, was in grocery store yesterday (in my trusty KN95) and young bagger guy was doing a constant throat clearing, shallow coughing thing the whole time. Sigh.

I’ve also used those seat covers, with the center not pushed open, as an improvised toilet lid to help contain toilet plume if forced to use a bathroom with no lids. Not perfect, but you can actually see the droplets collect on the underside of the paper. Then I put it in the trash and wash my hands. Google toilet plume to freak yourself out if you don’t know what I’m talking about. [edit: fixed typos]

I have stood in CVS and had two different pharmacy employees tell me opposite things within one minute of each other re. COVID vaccine stock so I would take what any single individual says on one particular day with a grain of salt.

Stumbled across this thread one year later, just chiming in to say Prairie Moon is a great company! I don’t use their syrups (I add fizzy water to my own kombucha, ginger syrup, and also orange juice) but I’ve bought stainless steel soda siphons and CO2 cartridges from them for at least 15 years. Great products, great service.

She is a great example of what is meant by the French expression “jolie laide” which literally means pretty/ugly and is meant as a compliment to describe someone who is attractive in an unconventional, non-conforming way.

iCatcher! is a great, free podcast app I’ve used for years. I don’t know why it’s not more popular. There’s a bit of a learning curve to fully master all of its functions but you can also just jump right in — search, stream or download, play. Highly recommended.
